I have 1 yr left in nursing school, and I'm interested in becoming a CRNA in a couple of years. With that being said, I would love to job shadow a CRNA, but I have no idea on where to begin to to find someone to shadow. Does anyone know someone?

Also those who know CRNAs, do they love their jobs?

I know 2 of them.

One is an OT 8 that's a lesbian.

The other ended up taking his own medicine and losing everything he had.

Money is damn good though.

You are going to have to work in critical care first. Once you are in that position, you will make contacts and have the opportunity to shadow.

Can we get a nursing board? The nursing threads are out of control.

honest question. why do no nurses want to be nurses anymore? It seems like half of recent nursing school grads these days want to go on and do NP/CRNA. Why not just go to Med school or PA school if that was the goal all along?

As far as your OP I say go for it. Do what your interested in. The ones I have seen have been very happy. Best of luck mate

It's true about the critical care experience. Most ICU nurses I know are just there to get experience needed for applying to school. It's a great profession but be prepared for long days and a fair bit of call. Unless you work at a surgical center most hospital OR's work 24/7.

Where are you in nursing school at?

I'm a CRNA. Live a very comfortable life. Was an RN before (of course) and liked that, but I love the CRNA career.

I might get you in to shadow myself if you give me some information.

I'm on the junior level at Southern University School, set to graduate Fall 2018! So far I've completed Med surg clinicals, and this semester is Peds and OB!

Thank you! I've considered PA & MD, but I don't want to be in school for that long, or incur the large amount of debt. I'm also much more interested in the nursing model, than the medical model.

I'm a CRNA also. Best advice I can give you is to work in a good ICU, apply yourself to the craft, and make sure you are a good nurse who's comfortable with critical care before starting CRNA school.

Questions for those in this thread saying they are CRNAs.

Where did you go to school to become a CRNA? Any programs you wouldn't recommend?

Thanks for the advice. Did you work in a hospital here in Louisiana, if so did you get great ICU experience?

To be competitive, you'll need more. You will be competing against RNs with often 5yrs+ experience.

I'm a CRNA also. I've been at Opelousas General Hospital for 10 years. I went to TCU in Fort Worth. It is a very strong program with top clinical sites all around the country, including Lafayette and Baton Rouge. The tuition is expensive though....PM me if you have any additional questions. Good Luck
