Critics take on the U.S. Open Ceremony Look for Olympics

quote:

Tuesday Ralph Lauren unveiled the outfits Team USA will be wearing during the Opening Ceremony, and fashionistas are already turning on it, slamming it for being "all wrong" and "un-American." One of the biggest targets is the white skirt, which some call "schoolmarmish," thanks to the calf-grazing length and its pairing with anachronistic bobby socks.

However, the biggest objection focuses on the "un-American" beret. Such headgear is stereotypically French, even socialist, according to the Twitter sphere. And while some would expect Ralph Lauren -- known for preppy designs -- to excel at a Hamptons-chic style, experts continue to lodge complaints:

What say you OT? Is this un-American?

Sadly, it's very American. They look just like commies.

They should wear red white and blue affliction shirts and cargo shorts with flip flops

I think the beret is stupid, but I like the rest of the outfit.

The cowboy hats were much more out style. It is a huge American symbol for people around the world.

These new uniforms are just ridiculous.

I think it's supposed to look a bit British. I could do without the berets, though.

Does anyone remember the 1996 olympics, in Utah, everyone had the beret. I have one still, I wish I would have sold mine when during the olympics they were going for $300.00

Not a fan of double breasted blazers and the beret is stupid and unnecessary. Besides that I have no qualms.
