Dad is looking to reward himself and is looking at some nice sports cars . Always being the cost conscious father, he was looking into CPO vehicles. Have you had a upper end CPO vehicle? What's it like? Any warnings for them, especially for a sports car?

What kind of car does he want?

BMW and Porsche have good CPO programs... idk about others.

If he wants to reward himself, ball out and get something with that new car smell.

If you don't know the acronym, it must be sexual - TD.com

That's good to hear. He's specifically looking at Porsche/MB. Maybe others as well.

I had a CPO BMW. As long as it was within that 100,000 miles it was great. I didn't sleep well at night until I got rid of it once I went past 100,000.

About 12 or 15 years ago, my brother bought a used 500 series BMW. It had a little over 30,000 miles on it. It was so perfect and pristine, it looked brand new. I saw the registration on his desk and noticed the mileage. I couldn't believe the car had 30,000 miles on it, I thought he'd bought a second one for his wife.

He's had several since then, all "pre-owned", so I'm assuming he's had a good experience with BMW.

I have no use for a high end sports car but if I did I would want to be the only owner.

Was it just because you were nervous about it or did issues actually pop up?

It was more nerves, but after having replaced the battery at a few hundred dollars and the brakes at more than I want to talk about, I really didn't want to deal with major repairs on it.

I bought a cpo BMW m5. Full extended warranty. Best purchase I have made. Saved thousands over new.

I only buy CPO vehicles. Let someone else take the immediate depreciation hit. Great experiences with both BMW and Lexus.

I know its just a Honda and no where near a sports car, but my CPO Acura has served me very well.

Many sport cars depreciate quickly so through CPO programs you can get a really good deal. Just get all service records, try to figure out how the dealership got the car and inspect it thoroughly for modifications (which are bad) and how hard it was driven (tires and brakes replaced at low low mileage...). You are hoping an older guy that upgraded from his Carerra to a Turbo for example.

My friend had a CPO 911; it was an awesome car and a great value. He paid about half the sticker price when it had less than 30k miles. I think his warranty was for 50,000 additional miles, though under certain circumstances the warranty can last 6 years or 100k vehicle miles (if the car is still under its original factory warranty). Every time he had to take it to the dealer they gave him a Porsche loaner - he had a new Cayenne for the better part of a month once, after running over a log on i10. After selling it his depreciation costs were $3k/year! Can't beat that with a stick.

I bought my wife a CPO Lexus last month. The warranty is for 3 years/40k miles. But it's a boring-arse Lexus.
