Cox internet in BR

My apartment complex has a contract with Cox so I have to get service through them, but the internet is mind-numbingly slow. I just took a speed test and it was around 4Mbps download speed over wifi. The wifi won't even work if I close a door in between my laptop and the router. Is it this bad everywhere in BR or are they just giving the college student housing the shitty hardware?

How much speed do you pay for?

No, but I have some friends at southgate and theirs is just as bad as mine.

Find out what speed you're supposed to be paying for. If it's something way higher than what you're getting, complain enough and you'll get it fixed. Literally they can flip a switch and fix it if it is a node issue. If not, make those bitches come to you and get the speed you pay for.

I pay around 50 a month for just internet, not sure what speed it is.

All yall who bitch about slow internet have never experienced the glorious company of comcast. I think dial up would be better.

There is a bottleneck somewhere as the service in that area can be good depending on which tier you are on.
Not sure how the wiring of apartment complexes work but if I had to guess it has something to do with that.
Confirm what tier you are paying for and follow up with Cox if you are not getting that speed.

Just checked my account, I'm paying for 15Mbps. Cox's speed test said I'm running at around 13, but speedtest.net clocked it at 4.

Yeah Cox, AT&T, and Comcast all have their own speedtests. And they all lie, a LOT.
Also try this one, LINK / It's the internet provider I use and I want to see if it'll work or if it lies to you as well. It lies to me constantly.
Call them up and tell them what down you're actually getting.

Do you have an ethernet cable? If you do, do a speedtest using it to see if it is a wireless issue or not.

I'm getting closer to 9Mbps with an ethernet cable. Is it worth calling them for that or are they going to tell me to frick myself?

I bitch about my internet speeds monthly. Sometimes these problems are easily fixed. They aren't going to tell you to go frick yourself.

Got it. After running the test on a wired connection a few more times I got a high of 12, a low of 6, and an average of around 9. I'll call tomorrow, thanks!

Cox is terrible. I'm on a hard wire connection: getting 2.5 download, 0.4 upload. Over the past month it's been this way. I'm in Florida. It's just an issue with Cox being total crap, no matter where you are.
I thought those loons wanting that Internet Freedom stuff said it was going to fix all these problems. Looks like they were wrong.
