Pretty good read. Can't believe they trained the animals to rape the prisoners too.

Could we throw some past super bowl halftime performers in there?

That Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction would have taken on a whole new meaning if a lion would have caused it.

Early Christians were among the most popular victims in ludi meridiani. The emperors who condemned these men, women and children to public death by beasts did so with the obvious hope that the spectacle would be so horrifying and humiliating that it would discourage any other Romans from converting to Christianity. Little did they realize that the tales of brave Christians facing certain death with grace, power and humility made them some of the earliest martyr stories. Nor could they have imagined that these oft-repeated narratives would then serve as invaluable tools to drive more people toward the Christian faith for centuries to come.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I recall that this was debunked as a myth, since no credible accounts of Christians being tortured in the colosseum simply for their beliefs had been found.

Amazing. Even back then there were no Tigers left at Halftime... even in a close, seesaw affair.

Check out Fox's Book of Martyrs. There are a number of documented accounts of Christians being fed to wild beast. There are a number of other sources as well.

I'd buy pay per view to see this.

But it could never happen. We live in a society that loses its shite when a boob pops out for 1 split second.

Sometimes I feel as if the OT was created simply to make me abandon all hope for mankind.

The spectacle as written sounds amazing, but I'm not sure how accurate it is. So, you have a mishmash of different apex predators running amok and they automatically go for the prisoners?

That doesn't sound plausible.Animals don't really work that way. Or at least aren't that predictable.

As far as inhumane executions go, that was a pretty cool idea. If we have to give credit to the Romans, that is.

I just read the diary of Perpetuas. It got to me pretty bad. The brutality of it all was too much to handle.

They would pile the twisted and broken but still breathing bodies off to the side and at the end of the festivities they would go through them and cut their throats.
