Could September 11th happen again??

Given the changes in the world over the past 16 years and taking into consideration heightened awareness and increased security, could something on a similar scale happen again? Any predictions?

I think it would be hard to take a plane the same way again. People then weren't thinking that hijackers would crash a plane in a building so they were willing to see what happened. Now I think you are getting passengers who are fighting back immediately because everyone will think the plane is going to be used to crash into a building
I can't help it but everytime I get on a plane I always look around to see what baws are going to have my back if we have to throw down with someone

Of course it could happen. We've got millions of people in this country who we have no fricking clue who they really or where they're from. 9/11 was pulled off by only 19 men with freaking box cutters. So yes another 9/11 can happen any day. And what's worse, it's possible the next 9/11 could make the last 9/11 look like child's play.

Absolutely. Happen the same way? Absolutely not. The problem with trying to defend against an attack vector you've never seen before is that you've never seen it before. We can effectively defend against things we know about, but with the unknown one failure of imagination on our part where the attacker's imagination didn't fail is all it takes to enable a successful attack.
Rumsfeld was trying to get this idea across in the infamous "known knowns and unknown unknowns" press conference.

As inept as the TSA is , yes A Muslim man could easily sneak a gun aboard and force an airplane into a building
Meanwhile, some poor white handicapped child would be randomly strip searched and imprisoned for attempting to carry a gun shaped cookie onto the same exact fricking flight.

Don't the cockpits have bulletproof doors that lock from the inside now? Hijackers could still kill everyone on board but at least they couldn't get control of the plane.

Hence the other issue that was created, you can't get into the cockpit when it is the pilot you're defending against. Though thankfully, less of an issue. Until it happens to you of course.

Yeah, unfortunately we've still got a lot of ineptitude in our security agencies. Plus, with today's PC culture, people are becoming more hesitant to alert the authorities to suspicious activity out of fear of being labeled some sort of "ist"
