I had plenty of room but all 4 of mine were coming in really crooked as could be seen on x-rays so I had them removed, lower left was really messed up and they had to cut a piece of my jaw bone to get it out.

I gots mine and Ill probably keep them. Or at least three of them. They came in straight. But one gets sore like once a year, and I have the sneaking suspicion that it's messing up the lower right row of teeth. My teeth never required Braces and are straight, perfectly carved sculptures, so this is unacceptable.

they could screw up the alignment of all your other teeth, especially if you already had braces.

As I understand it, the research/literature indicates that this isn't true. I was very surprised by this since, like just about everyone, I assumed it was just common knowledge or common sense that your wisdom teeth would mess up the alignment of all of your teeth as a sort of domino effect.

But apparently mesial drift is the real culprit.

There are multiple reasons dentists will recommend removal of wisdom teeth one of which is not to make more$$. Impacted wisdom teeth can and do lead to cysts forming in the jaw bone that can destroy the bone and surrounding teeth. The worst I've seen is a guy with a badly swollen jaw and an idiopathic jaw fracture from an untreated 3rd molar cyst. Also, If your wisdom teeth are only partially erupted and not coming in any farther then you have a direct pathway from your mouth to the bone for bacteria and infection to spread. That being said not all wisdom teeth need to be removed if they are not causing problems nor are likely to.

I had my bottom ones taken out. Completely painless, and I was only out of commission for like a day and could eat regular food like a week or two later. Plus I had a bunch of painkillers left over which was badass

Well, you don't get any Vicodin, that's for sure.

Why don't you get another opinion before going through that again?

I have no wisdom teeth (as in they never were there, not that I had them removed). Not sure if that means I am unwise or if I am just evolved.

This was two plus decades ago so the details are kind of hazy but-They pulled mine out without putting me under. The dentist had his knee on my hip pulling so hard. My Dad came in from the waiting room because he was so concerned by all the noise I was making. It took two hours. All were impacted. The dentist said it was the worst trouble he'd had pulling them in 20 years because the roots were turned upside down and curved back on two of them. They looked like gnarled tree roots.

The dentist said because it was so bad here is some Demerol to take and sent me home. I took the medication as prescribed and had a reaction that would not allow me to piss. After like three days my gf drove me to the urologist and he said wtf and did an immediate catheter to drain all the piss out. He also called in to doctors in residency to witness and explain the dangers. The big arse beaker overflowed and ran all over the floor. He told me I could have died. On top of all that they became horribly infected-post surgery. The whole ordeal put me down for ten days.

To make it all worse my lower bottoms aren't all that great. It was one of the shittiest ten days of my life.

My doc gave up pulling 1 of them and just cracked it into pieces after opening up my gums....what a happy time that was when I awoke.

Dr. Joel Safer. He was on Goodwood and was my childhood dentist. Super-nice guy.

I still have my wisdom teeth and so do most of my friends...

the biggest problem that I have seen with them is that they are so far back that a lot of folks find it hard to brush or floss them, so they eventually get cavities and have to be pulled anyway...

I still have mine. When I was a Jr in high school, my dentist just cut the top of the gums where they were "cutting". They grew in from there. I had to take it easy for a couple of days while the gums healed by I haven't had any problems.
