Growing up in Louisiana, I have noticed that this flag seems to be everywhere. I have heard a million reasons why people fly them but they are all vague. I hear pride, heritage, culture, etc...

I have always wanted to know what specifically about that short time in our past gave them so much pride?

Was it state rights? Is that why all the frats, bikers, and country boys fly them? Are they that into economics/politics?

Do they think its just cool to be from the south and their state flag just doesn't cut it?

Does everyone long to be part of something and this is their easy group to belong to?

I was just curious about what, specifically, they were so happy to be a part of?

FYI, Love free speech. Fly it as much as you want to.

I don't know how familiar you are with the history, but back then we got to own people. Like real fricking people!! Can't do that these days.

To be fair, LSU fans spend a short time there, relatively speaking (if at all), yet have a lot of pride and put LSU shite all over everything.

Ironically, it symbolizes freedom to me.

The ability to just stand up from the table and walk away.

Slavery wasn't the issue of the war, the issue was the group of states being told what to do and having the balls to walk away.

They were of course wrong in their views...slavery was wrong.

They were right in their convictions however. It is an admirable quality.

I am just comforted by the fact that most people don't know what the Stars and Bars flag is.

To answer your question, I support the old flag as a way to remember my ancestors that fought for it. Not as a way to commemorate anything the battle flag has been turned into.

I wish they would change the Mississippi flag.

I've heard that it was originally popularized by the KKK. Some states added it to their state flags when the KKK was popular in the 20's. Regained popularity in the 50's during the battle to prevent integration. More states added it to their flags. Something like that.

Nope, just good old fashioned disdain for minorities.

There was a vote.

Although, I see your POV.

Hell, they lost anyway. If Booth wouldn't have killed Lincoln, lots of former slaves would be in West Africa now. Namely, Liberia.

Andrew Johnston is mostly to blame for the South's condition. Re-contsruction under him was draconian.

So does Redneck. He wears one as a cape for big games, you know it is game day when you see him running around hammered with that thing flapping around behind him!
