Is this issue of tolerance one of the reasons many people refer to marijuana as a 'gateway' drug? After a while, a user might move up to a harder (stronger) illegal substance in order to get his 'high'?

Weed is not really like that.
Higher Rates of Alcohol, Drug Problems
"By studying twins, we were able to compare pairs of individuals of the same age, same family background and -- in the case of identical twins -- individuals with exactly the same genes," Lynskey explains. "But these twins differed in one important respect: One had chosen to begin using cannabis before 17, but the other had not."
By the time these twins were interviewed in their late 20s and early 30s, the early marijuana users had developed higher rates of problems with alcohol and other drugs. Some 46 percent reported that they later abused or became dependent upon marijuana, and 43 percent had become alcohol dependent.
The early marijuana users also used other drugs at higher rates, including cocaine and other stimulants (48 percent) heroin and other opioids (14 percent) and hallucinogens (35 percent).
Street values in most states range from $50-$60 for an eighth (1/8 of an oz),putting the street value at $400-$480 for an oz.
quote:this whole coffee argument is retarded, the prices for marijuana in this thread have been for high end marijuana, low end marijuana can be less than $50 per ounce. The coffee prices thrown around have been an average, so the 50 cent cup of coffee from a gas station is averaged in with the $6 cup of double espresso vanilla skinny latte with whipped cream.
Actually if he's spending $400 per month, using the average price of coffee in the US as a basis, that translates into 10 cups of coffee daily that the average coffee drinker would have to purchase to spend the same on coffee as he does on pot. As to who consumes the pot or coffee, that's a moot point since we're only discussing the cost of the product and not it's consumption.
this whole coffee argument is retarded,
Your comparison is still taking the average of one thing (coffee) and comparing it to the top end of another (marijuana), then proceed to talk about it for 5 pages of discussion like it's some sort of relevant comparison. And what leads you to believe that I am a pot smoker, and therefore paranoid about something?
