Coaching tee ball----any tips?

So....apparently there weren't enough volunteers for coaches, so I decided I'd help out and coach.
Surely some of you OT'ers have experience. Any tips on goals I should have for the season and how to run practices with very young kids (4-5)?
My main tenets will be making sure the kids are having fun and being energetic and positive for them, which shouldn't be a problem for me.
I guess my questions are how to run practice, what kind of things I should teach, and tips for approaching parents.

You'll be fine.

Don't be afraid of the ball.
Raise your hand if you have to go to the bathroom.
Put your worst player at catcher.

quote:get lots of parents to help. Break them into smaller groups of 3 or 4 to learn basic fundamentals. Use the Internet to find videos of how to teach basic throwing, fielding and hitting to this age group. It is likely that none of them will be able to catch a ball except on very rare occasions.

Run bases at the beginning and end of practice. The kids usually love it.

Ball goes on top of the tee.

The most important thing will be to get some help so you can break them up into small groups, separating the more "active" kids. You'll be lucky if one of them can pay attention for very long so they need to be engaged almost constantly.

Go on and start giving them PEDs. That way when they get to coach pitch, they will be crushing it.

1. Keep practices short, no more than an hour. At that age their attention span won't last much longer.
2. Keep it fun. Go check youtube for drills that make it fun to learn the fundamentals of how to throw a ball and swing a bat. Make the drills like a game to them.
3. Understand their motor skills are just starting to develop. Most will not be able to catch a ball other than to hold out their glove and have a ball land in it. The best you'll probably do is introduce them to throwing mechanics and the basics of a swing.
4. Make sure the parents understand that t-ball is just a introduction to baseball and is supposed to be nothing more than fun for the kids. Yes, you want them to be introduced to the basics of the game, but the bottom line is to make it fun for the kids.

Make sure you have (by whatever means) plenty of snacks for after. That's all they care about.
Make sure you let the kid with the hot mom play a lot!

You'll have a blast at practice and the games, but expect some butthurt parents to complain to you after the game because their little prodigy didn't get 1st base or pitchers mound. Parents, especially mommys, suck the fun out of little league.

Select a team to coach based on the most single Moms.

Teach them the meaning of the word hustle. how to run to first base. How to get their glove on the ground when fielding grounders, and for god's sake don't try to teach them that God Awful elbow up batting stance.
Mainly, laugh a lot and make sure they are having fun.

When you're out there at the tee, before you take your hand off the ball and let the kid at the plate swing, look out at the field and make sure everyone is looking and paying attention, especially the pitcher. The last thing you want to see is a kid taking a liner to the face because they were in a daze. or watching a squirrel.

Tee ball advice? Draft the kids with the hottest moms

You need lots of assistant coaches. Tell the parents if you don't know anything about baseball but do know how to stand in line they can help.
Divide the kids into groups of two or three and teach what you are doing in stations.
Make sure they run to first and not third.

Pick your team based on how hot their moms are or if their dad is in a position to do you favors like if he's a roofer who can cut you a deal or a cop that can get you out of tickets.
