He was Catholic High Man of the year

Wow. For those that don't know that is the most respected award given by the school.

To say most are likely surprised would be an understatement

Without knowing a single thing about the deceased, as a CHS grad I know he must have been a heck of a person to receive that award

RIP

It's indecorous to mention real names of suicides on boards featuring WYHI threads. It's equally indecorous to quibble about it in front of people who knew this young man and are grieving. Let's leave it there.

My heart goes out to the family and the entire CHS community.

Mental health professionals talk about "suicide clusters" that can sweep a community in ensuing months, after a highly -respected kid kills himself. The general idea is that the suicide of a high profile kid who "has everything going for him" kind of "normalizes" suicide for kids who are struggling with the thought themselves.

In other words, now is a great time to have this discussion and say what you want to say to anybody who may be struggling with depression if they have any connection (including just random social media mentions and tributes) to this young man.

Back at you, cock bite. If it was your kid, would you want his name plastered on this board? You are a real a-hole.

It is published in the newspaper. One click and you can read it there. Relax.

How naive do you have to be to not understand mental illness and how someone can be so far away from their normal, healthy state of mind that they could make an irrational decision.

LSU pimp post of the year.......

A wise old man once told me depression kills more people than all other ills combined.....they may die of a heart attack, cancer or drunk driving at its root it was likely depression was the cause.

I can't speak for the family, but I can't be alone in saying I'm so tired of seeing this tragedy repeat nearly every year. This time its a former CHS standout. In years past it was a well liked pledge who seemed to have the world ahead of him. Or the girl who was the academic overachiever. Or the neighborhood kid I watched walk his dog every day. These are just the under 20 year old kids, to say nothing of the people I've personally known who battled addiction or depression and turned to suicide.

In no way can I claim to have the answers, but it seems like we need to confront this head on, not avoid it. Whatever we are doing isn't working, because in my own sense, this is getting more frequent. I'm at a loss.

It's been explained to me that suicide is like trying to step out of a burning building...if that makes sense.

I don't understand it either. I knew a TD poster that passed away over the summer, and I just don't understand why or how it could have happened. Or what we could do to reach out to people who are struggling, if there are any red flags, etc.

I used to be best friends with his older brother when we were younger playing baseball in like 2nd-3rd grade, so I spent a lot of time around him during those few years. He was always extremely kind to me and a pleasure to be around. I can recall several great memories I had with him and his older brother when we were growing up. My heartfelt condolences go out to the family, you are in my thoughts and prayers

Maybe some times there are signs. I had 2 friends who committed suicide who I Knew since high school. One of whom I hung out with the night before he drove home and committed suicide. I am 36 now and i replay in my mind all the time the what ifs. I replay the night before all the time. It haunts me now to think about his words and actions the night before to this day. I saw this video on FB two days ago. I think it can apply to so many situations. Please watch. If it makes you pick up on something, hopefully your outcome will be better than mine/my friends.

I used to be one of those people that just didnt understand depression or anxiety until one day I realized that I myself had been having issues with anxiety. I wish I could place a really descriptive metaphor so that people could understand the feeling, but I'll tell you this, at it's worst, I can definitely see how people can feel there is no other choice, and how confiding in someone can be both embarassing, and make you feel like a hinderance to someone. I can only pray, and hope that if there is ever someone I can reach and help that they either open up to me about it, or that I can see the signs(which are very easily concealed).

Because it's not the answer, it's an answer, and that's a lot easier to rationalize than "the" or "right" answer.

It's not a matter of what you have going for you either. In the end, it's how you feel your worth here compares, what value you place on life. For someone as accomplished as this young man, he had a lot to live up to.

Thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
