Talk about going to a gun fight with a knife.
Sad and tragic intersection of taking one's adversaries too lightly and just plain bad luck.

This is the gunfight that caused pretty much all police in this country to make the turn from 'police weapons' to 'military weapons and tactics'. After this fight the FBI decided the 9mm wasn't sufficient and neither were revolvers. So we got the high capacity 10mm and .40 caliber pistols and the shift to the military tactic of establishing dominance with more shots being fired downrange like in wartime.
The guy who took them out was using a semi auto rifle that he'd actually practiced with a lot. So he was AT LEAST as trained as they were, and probably more so.
We're feeling the repercussions of this fight to this day. And they haven't been good for anyone.
Funny thing... just this last year, the FBI went back to 9mm because there was no terminal ballistic difference between it and the rest of the modern handgun calibers but with modern controlled expansion bullets, you could get back on target faster and more accurately with the 9mm as well as having more capacity.

He was a Ranger. I'd say he was better trained. With his rifle, he should have kicked some cop arse. He was shooting over a thousand rounds a week in practice. Several agents left their cover as well while he kept his.

Platt was the one who killed both FBI agents, and he had to be shot 12 times before he died.
He was shot in the right arm/upper chest, the right thigh, the left foot, the right forearm, and again in the right arm/chest before he even killed an agent.
I don't blame them for increasing the stopping power of their weapons/ammo.

no head left.....that must have been messy.

There is one part where an agent is reloading his revolver slowly and gets hit in the hand. Now he can't reload his gun.
