This is hilarious and scary...
quote:

Chicago (CNN)Hundreds of police officers at one of the country's busiest airports say in the case of an active shooter, they are instructed to run and hide.

That's because these officers are unique among the nation's major airports: They don't carry guns.

quote:

Internal aviation department documents obtained through department sources state, "If evacuation is not possible: hide."

The documents advise locking doors, turning off lights and remaining quiet and calm.

"We must also ensure that unarmed security personnel ... do not attempt to become part of the response, but could be invaluable to the evacuation efforts," the documents said.

Story and video on CNN.com

Only airport in the country that doesn't let their Airport Police carry guns. Meanwhile - The rest of Chicago's PD has been given the greenlight to run amok for the last 20 years or so.

In fairness, it's the Chicago police. The only group in this country I would be less willing to trust with guns is the NYPD.

Oh trust me... The irony of that has not been lost on me. I wonder if these people know they are going to be Airport Police when they start out at the Chicago Police Academy? ...or is it where the senior brass direct cadets that they don't think will play ball with whatever side projects the rest of the force is involved in.

And the Atlanta airport just gets better. I can carry in there just not past the security checkpoint.

Is there armed security?

No. They have to wait for Chicago City PD to respond.

Only major airport that doesn't have armed PD on property.

So, this policy and this story is basically advertising to terrorists and other shooters that O'Hare would be a swell place to go shooting people.

And when the Chicago cops finally arrive, they'll either be just in time to bag up a couple hundred bodies or face a hostage situation potentially involving thousands of people.
