I felt safe with the proper PPE. The suit was impenetrable as far as vapors and liquids were concerned. Fresh air respirators are positive pressure so in the even you have a leak you are breathing under a higher pressure than the atmosphere around you.
The plant didn't reek of chemicals per se, but it was common practice on any line break for anyone to wear it as a precautionary measure.

Finish your degree. I dropped out of LSU with 3 semesters left. I went back and graduated when I was 28.
