Ok, so I rarely fly. Like once a decade. What are the best ways to book flights or sites to use to book flights. I'm trying to save some cash. I need to get to Columbia, SC for the LSU game. Leave the Friday come back on Sunday (hopefully not too early) I just needs tips. I can do the leg work. TIA
Lafayette or BTR

Google flights. I'd help you now but I'm about to tutor. If you can wait until tomorrow I'll post my cheap flight of the week thread

Use Kayak to price the flights with the different airlines, then go to the airline's website to book directly through them... Also, check out Columbia's airport website to see which airlines fly there - there might be a discount airline like Spirit that won't show up on Kayak.

I'm hearing more and more complaints about Spirit. My cousin and his wife are in Cancun trying to get back to Houston, they are on a 5 hour delay from Spirit, no reason given.

According to flight aware, the flight was supposed to leave houston to cancun at 11am and didn't take off until 3:21pm so that's where the delay came from. It looks like they should be taking off at 6:15pm getting back to IAH at 8:05pm

If you're leaving from BR, looks like $277 on US Air if you fly into Charlotte instead of Columbia.

Looks like New Orleans to Columbia is $270 on Delta, too.

Book early - longer you wait, the more expensive it gets. I'm paying $450/person for freaking round trip to El Paso. I could have booked it a month ago for well less than half that, but we only had to go if my kid won another tournament. I waited, he won, I paid, out the arse.

skyscanner.com is another good site for finding cheap airfare. It is best for finding cheap options when your departure is flexible. You can search for flights from MSY to Everywhere, Whole Month (as departure date) LINK. It will give you the cheapest flights everywhere in the world for the entire month. You can also search for Cheapest Month if your travel dates are flexible LINK.

This site isn't as good as google flights for specific dates/locations (you can still find the same rates but it isn't as easy to navigate), but if you want to go somewhere at some point in the future and you are flexible then this site gives some good ideas.
