Sorry, hit enter instead of tab .

Thinking about moving here with my soon-to-be permanent SO (no pics). We're late twenties, and I'll be working right downtown.

Ideally I'd like somewhere I can walk to work or take public. Do people use the light rail in Charlotte or no? What are some top neighborhoods off these rails? We're young and still like active things, but eventually would probably have a family.

Are there decent places to live downtown that would allow an urban walking existence or is the downtown scene fairly rough? We haven't started doing too much research so just curious if it's worth looking into or not.

Thanks!

Uptown is a great area, but pretty pricey. I would recommend somewhere in Southend. The light rail extends down that way and theres a ton of bars/breweries that are pretty awesome. NODA is a fun area too. Honestly you cant go wrong with Dillworth or Barclay Downs either. Lots of options available.

I currently live in uptown myself and have no complaints!

Do you have an exciting life? You seem to move around a lot.

Just moved to Charlotte in July from Louisiana..freaking love it.

For your needs, look at the South End area. Thats where the majority of young professionals live and where many of the new breweries/bars are located.

Charlotte calls their downtown area "Uptown" so be aware of that. You can live in the downtown area, but its meh compared to the surrounding areas (Noda/Plaza Midwood/South End/).

I did a ton of research before my wife & I moved out here, so ask away.

Got lots of freedom with my job and get bored with places easily so I move alot. I find it exciting, I think my SO is starting to hate it, though, so thinking Charlotte might be longterm haha.

Yea that's where we've initially started to look. So the light rail if professionally acceptable? I'm not gonna be riding on some dilapidated death trap, correct?

Yea when I say downtown I meant uptown. The location of the office is in the heart of uptown. It's an incredible area hence why we're thinking of possibly going full-on urban and living in uptown.

If you work Uptown, DO NOT move to Lake Norman or anywhere north of the city. You will sit in traffic for a long time each day and there are better alternatives.

I would vote somewhere around the South End or NoDa depending on what scene you like. NoDa is a bit rougher/artsier and is not for everyone. The light rail does go through South End and the like, but they are currently working on the extension to go North, so NoDa will have access to it soon.

Yea this is not an option. We're looking at nothing on the north end.

I lived in Huntersville for several years. Wife and I just left and headed back South.

I loved my job and a few other things about the area. However, being a gun and bass boat owner really seemed to piss a lot of people off in that area.

So get you a Bernie 2016 sticker, an eco-friendly automobile, and live the hell out of NoDa.

Seems a little ironic..

I have yet to venture to the northern areas of Charlotte, but have been planning to take the boat out on Lake Norman before it gets too cold. Is the fishing decent?

Lake Norman is not a very good fishing lake (and neither is Mt. Island below it). It's a very good leisure boating lake although it does get very crowded. It has a lot of dangerous spots where the lake gets very shallow out "in the middle" as well. So be mindful of markers.

I found the fishing to be much better over in the Yadkin Pee Dee River Basin. Especially Badin and Tuckertown. I caught some monsters over there and never had a problem catching numbers either.

I would say the thing I miss the most about NC is Tuckertown/Badin. Oh and The Fork. I highly recommend taking a trip to The Fork Farm if you get a chance.

Nostra, are you looking to rent or buy? Condo/Apartment or House?

I wanted a house with a yard/garage so we ended up in the Myers Park/Cotswold area. Still less than 5 minutes from downtown.
