Yes, we just havent decided yet. We want it to be an organization that will definitely use the money directly for flood victims. Any ideas?

To donate $10 to the Red Cross and provide much needed immediate response, text LAFLOODS to 90999. It really does help.

For anyone looking to help out a family in need, this just came across my facebook and I wish I was in a position to help.

quote:

Can anyone help tomorrow or Thursday clearing out my aunt and uncle's house off Flannery near Florida at 13814 Leighwood Avenue in Baton Rouge? If yes, please message me. The water went down quicker than expected, and the rest of our family either cannot get there before the weekend or they are busy trying to save their own property.

The Associated Professional Educators of Louisiana have established a disaster relief website where teachers may apply for funds to replace classroom supplies and books. There's also an easy method to make tax-deductible donations towards this effort.

In the Hammond area Woodland Park Baptist Church is taking donations and supplies which are being distributed to other churches and shelters. Greatest needs are toiletries/personal hygiene items, diapers, wipes and cleaning supplies. I know a trailer and several trucks took supplies to Central today.

If you're in Houma, Cross Church is doing a "100 boot mission".

https://crosschurchhouma.com/floodrelief

You can help "Boot up the Boot State" in three ways:

1) Donate Items: We will be collecting items at Cross Church, Tuesday through Friday from 3-6pm.

2) Sponsor a Boot Basket: One boot basket will cost approximately $50. Sign up by clicking here: LINK

3) Serve: We will put together baskets at 6pm on Friday and meet at 7am on Saturday to deliver and serve the Baton Rouge Area. Tuesday evening, we will put more baskets together to deliver Wednesday in Lafayette. Again, we'll meet at 7am on Wednesday at the church.

Items Needed:

Rubber Boots (new or gently used)
Flashlights with Batteries (Preferably headlamps; new or gently used)
Gloves
Bleach
Rags (new or gently used)
Industrial Trash Bags
Socks
Anti Bacterial Soap
Respirator Masks (Double Masks Work Best)
Five Gallon Buckets
Snack Bars
Water
Rubbermaid Bins

My sister's office is taking donations and we will be sending those to friends and family that are in need.

My college friends are putting together a care package for my parents sending them clothes and other items that they need. Anything they can't use we will be forwarding along.

Thanks to everyone who is pulling together and helping out. It is much needed and so heartwarming to see.

Thanks, Bush. They are getting settled in with my brother until we figure out next steps. Everything was a total loss.

If anyone is looking to help, but doesn't know someone personally that needs assistance,
My wife was asked by an older coworker if she knew anyone that could help them clean out their home this morning. Don't know the details, but it did not sound like they had many connections for help.

He asked for help at 10:00am this morning. Water is gone on streets so cars or trucks can get there. Address is ***** .

Good luck to all and be safe while cleaning up.

I'm in Asheville NC and just drive by a grocery store that had an 18 wheeler van that people were loading up with all kinds of foods and dry goods to send to LA. It leaves Friday morning. Pretty cool imo

This might be a bit unrelated and probably been posted already, but if any victim has any access to a phone, or computer, they can go to Together Baton Rouge's flood survey section.

TogetherBR

It helps them find out how much need is out there.

Our office is looking to volunteer time at any point this week or next to help folks in need. Does anyone have recommendations on how we can physically help victims (either at a shelter or elsewhere)? We have already donated supplies and money and would like to help out in person given what people are going through.

Added the Houma Church mentioned in this thread and we are in the process of adding the 225 Baton Rouge locations in the above most to our comprehensive map of donation locations/shelters/demo services.

Did you just show up at Celtic and ask to volunteer or did you sign up or call ahead of time?

Cap, if you didn't get a response to this, yea I just showed up, but now they are making you register with Red Cross when you get there. Easiest thing would be to do it on your own computer before going, takes about 10mins. (I did not watch the video seemed a bit unnecessary under the circumstances).
