All charges will be dropped against Ingmar Guandique, the man who had been convicted in 2010 of murdering Chandra Levy in 2001, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced in a statement Thursday.
According to the statement, prosecutors concluded they can no longer prove the murder case against Guandique beyond a reasonable doubt," based on recent unforeseen developments that were investigated over the past week." The statement does not elaborate.
"After investigating this information and reviewing all of the evidence in this case, the government now believes it is in the interests of justice for the court to dismiss the case without prejudice," prosecutors wrote in a one-page motion.
Levy's remains were found in Washington's Rock Creek Park in 2002. Prosecutors argued her death fit a pattern of attacks Guandique committed on female joggers. He was found guilty in 2010 of Levy's murder but granted a new trial last year.
The case hinged on a jailhouse informant who said Guandique had confessed to killing Levy. Guandique's attorneys had previously asked a judge to grant him a new trial because they said that key witness in the case, Guandique's one-time cellmate, gave false or misleading testimony during his 2010 trial. Guandique's attorneys said prosecutors knew or should have known the testimony was problematic and investigated further.
Prosecutors say that as a result of their action Guandique, who is from El Salvador, will be released to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and faces removal proceedings.

Did Congressman Condit just quit paying his family?

Slow down. It's possible he did it, there's just insufficient evidence.

Maybe. It didn't say he didn't do it, just that they don't have a strong enough case to prosecute again.
Who as the Senator or Congressman caught up in this? Gary somebody?

They need to dial up the producers of forensic files. Everything gets solved on there.

Wrongly incarcerated. J tap dancing C. Justice, man.

I still believe that Condit while probably not doing it himself, still played a role in her death.

Not exactly. He would've been incarcerated for attacking all those joggers. I'm pretty sure he's still got to stay in jail for those even though they're dropping the murder charges.

I´m wrong. Had no idea who this person was, and I agree with your comment.

I agree with this. All of this happened right before 9/11 so that took away the media's interest in this event.
This was the focus at that time.
I think Gary Condit is now running a yogurt shop somewhere in California.

He's a known sex criminal and we've wasted millions in taxpayer resources over the years on him--all because Gary Condit couldn't keep it in his pants.
Send his arse back to El Salvador and let his countrymen take care of him.

This dude is in jail for violently attacking other female joggers in the park where Levy was killed.
He's not some innocent guy that caught a bad rap.

It's a shame these false allegations kept him from being a guest of honor at the DNC.
