I'm all for hunting exotic animals because, like the other poster said, the fees usually go towards conservation. I don't even mind the giraffes and zebras, etc. because the guides typically allow you to hunt old and sickly ones that can't reproduce anymore. But this sounds like they broke rules and shot one that wasn't supposed to be killed.

Sport.
That is not sport. Those big game exotic animals are basically given to the "hunters" by their guides.

Lots of feelings going on in this thread. I love animals, and the circumstances surrounding the hunting of the lion are unsettling, but I think many in this thread are in need of some perspective.
Wishing for someone's personal and professional life to be ruined over this is rather excessive and disproportionate to the alleged offense.
I'm certainly not a fan of his hobby, and he very well may be a terrible person. But none of that matters as long as he hunts within the guidelines set by the governing bodies of the wildlife parks. In this instance, it appears he may have circumvented the rules to gain access to an animal that was not intended to be hunted. He should be punished according to the extent that he didn't follow regulations, which probably includes a hefty fine, a banning from visiting the park, and possibly even jail time pending an investigation.
Hopefully he will learn from his mistake and, if he continues to hunt, will do so honestly. Everyone gets so caught up in "taking up a cause." It becomes a competition over the amount of outrage one can display. By the histrionics in this thread, you'd think he hunted a school bus full of children. If giving a dental practice, which you've never visited, a 1-star review on Google gives you a sense of purpose then maybe you've lost sight of the real issue.

That story has a lot of contradicting information with the first. Basically the entire thing contradicts it.
Once again, the media trying to sensationalize a story frick it up

frick this guy.
quote:
The two arrested Zimbabwean men — a professional hunter and a farm owner — face poaching charges, the Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Authority and the Safari Operators Association said in a joint statement. Killing the lion was illegal because the farm owner did not have a hunting permit, the joint statement said. The lion was skinned and beheaded. The hunters tried to destroy the lion’s collar, fitted with a tracking device, but failed, the statement said.
If convicted, the men face up to 15 years in prison.
The lion is believed to have been killed on July 1 in western Zimbabwe’s wildlife-rich Hwange region, its carcass discovered days later by trackers, the statement said.
The Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force said in a statement that an American paid the $50,000 for the hunt. During a nighttime hunt, the men tied a dead animal to their car to lure the lion out of a national park, said Johnny Rodrigues, chairman of the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force. The American is believed to have shot it with a crossbow, injuring the animal. The wounded lion was found 40 hours later, and shot dead with a gun, Rodrigues said in the statement.
“The saddest part of all is that now that Cecil is dead, the next lion in the hierarchy, Jericho will most likely kill all Cecil’s cubs,” said Rodrigues.
Cecil, recognizable by his black mane, was being studied by an Oxford University research program, the conservation group said.
Tourists regularly spotted his characteristic mane in the park over the last 13 years, said Lion Aid, also a conservation group.

The punishment is up to 15 years in Zimbabwe prison.
An effect of this would be ruining his professional and personal life. His fault for being a piece of shite.

Did you read the first story? Who's telling the truth and who's making shut up to get views?

Exactly. People don't like that he hunts exotic animals (which he seems to have done legally up to this point). We don't have many details, and some of the released information has been contradictory. There should be an actual investigation, you know...by investigators, not by random people in the media who just really like lions.
I'm not saying he been witch hunt. But there's a chance he been witch hunt.

The Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force said they baited the lion.... and the 2 guides are under arrest as we speak. How is that contradicting anything?? Are they really not under arrest?

Zimbabwe has arrested the two locals involved and they face up to 15 years in prison.
So it seems the investigation has concluded this guy is a piece of shite.

What about the cubs that Cecil murdered when he became alpha?
What about Jericho's cubs when the next alpha comes along?
When will all this cub murderin' stop?

What was his role in all of this? To what extent was he responsible for the luring of the animal out of the park?

I think most of the feelings are exhibited by aggrieved hunters who think that anyone labeling a fellow hunter a douche somehow implicates them.
Calling a guy an a-hole for being an a-hole doesn't strike me as behavior "in need of some perspective."
Dude is a douche, he's getting the treatment douches get. I'm not advocating for his execution, but I'm not going to get in a tizzy because the lion-slaying dork is getting bad Yelp reviews.

He financed the entire operation and killed the animal for which he didn't have a permit to do so.
