Most of person's work ethic stems from their genetics and their parents' involvement at home. Assuming the school is not a total train wreck, they will do well anywhere.

Montessori is probably ok for preschool but i have had nothing but great experiences with Catholic schools.

Yeah, I was at Jazzfest with some old friends and I heard the Jesuit version of Springsteen's Glory Days.

But I agree. Parents involvement can make any child do well and genetics usually well let you know how well.

So, the chicken nugget is in Catholic School?

The concept of catholic schools (at least on the level of Louisiana's) is so foreign to me. Seems like a good option.

South LA is extremely catholic heavy and the major metro cities public school system is beyond terrible.

Folks down here take a lot of pride in their school, and many kids in catholic schools now are the 3rd or 4th generation that attended the same school.

This is somewhat a result of having so many catholic/private schools in South LA. Private schools where I grew up are 2-3 times more expensive a year than most private schools in South LA. Obviously meaning there are fewer people able/willing to pay to send their kids there. This results in better students at public schools.

And yes the socioeconomics and demographics are nearly identical to South LA

Completely depends on where you live. New Orleans? Yeah, Catholic schools are better. Palo Alto? Send your kids to public school.

You are wrong here. I now live in Nashville. What they allowed communities to do is break away from the shitty Nashville public school system and start their own school systems in Brentwood etc. This is the same thing with the Katy like enclaves around Houston. BR tried to do that. They werent allowed

Is the quality of the education better because of the quality of the classroom instruction or the quality of the students sitting in the classroom? I think too often the perceived quality of the education is a actually a function of the students (and their family) not the school itself.

If Catholic schools were so great, why are these families still in Louisiana?

Sure there are examples of that.

However, to counter, my hometown tried to do it as well when I was younger and was denied from breaking from Charleston County School District.

That high school is constantly ranked as one of the best in the nation.

Not going into a lot of detail right now, but just look at all the industrial jobs Louisiana has and had for decades.

And Louisiana folks like to stay "home".

This is simply incorrect. Brentwood is in a separate county (Williamson) and falls under Williamson county schools as most schools are county schools in Tennessee; Franklin does have a separate school system. All public schools within Davidson County are apart of Metro Nashville.

People beating up on Montessori have NO IDEA what they're talking about. It is important that the school be certified by The American Montessori Society. They are not for everyone as the methods are unusual less intelligent folks thankfully get scared away.

In the end, it will always depend on the specific teacher and school, but in general, you can be pretty sure that Montessori > Episcopal > Catholic > Public. There are always exceptions, but each has it's own primary objective and only Montessori has education as theirs.

My kids went to Montessori through kindergarten, then to Episcopal, then Catholic....each change was a big step down in quality of teachers, students, and education.

It depends on where you live. If Louisiana, most parishes have terrible public schools. You gotta go private in that case.

I just dont know what my hometown could do(BR). The public school i was zoned for was closed down because barely anyone was even graduating( Lee High). So were my parents actually supposed to send me there?

Then I had it confused with Franklin. My apology

If I lived in Palo Alto and a Catholic school was nearby, I would send there in a heartbeat.

yeah I think it's just a fricked situation down there WRT public schools. Over saturation of private schools in South LA has led to the public schools getting worse and worse. Sort of self fulfilling.

Aren't you going to Charleston soon? Was that you?
