Average wholesale and then mark it up $4k. Change the oil, half arse wash it, and put it on the lot.

No one is holding a gun to the head of their customers so their business model must have some merit. As a whole they have had very strong growth for several years.

You are correct. Buyers are stupid.

I think some buyers just like the streamlined process

I relaky have no intention of buying something from them. Just trying to gauge a potential offer as an extra option

Do you know of a dealership that won't quickly sell you a car as long as you agree to pay sticker for it?

If you compare carmax's "sticker" price to used cars on dealer lots, carmax will almost always have the lower price

That attracts buyers

Ran the blue book on a company truck in excellent condition f150 which indicated around $14K. They offered us $7500.

Customers complain when they can't negotiate the sticker price down at dealerships. If a dealer thought a customer would simply agree to the sticker price from the beginning, they would easily take that.

When I bought my car, dealer was offering supplier pricing and was a legit deal no haggling to everyone (other dealers wouldn't try and compete). I heard a guy yell for 30 minutes about how he "knows" they can go lower.

No. They have the highest price when comparing apples to apples.

I was wondering if it was possible to get a rough guess on what they'd offer on a vehicle by looking at very similar vehicles' selling price on their site I'm sure it's not a set % or scale, but even a ballpark number would be useful.

CarMax entered incorrect information into their system on purpose even after I pointed it out. They refused to re-run my car once they realized that I saw them try to snooker us and that I had an IQ greater than that of your garden variety banana slug.

They offered my wife $5,800 for a car that Kia East offered us $13K for ultimately in trade.

Stay away from them like the plague. Dirty, lying, filthy shysters. Much worse than a typical car sales outfit.

Well this thread has me disappointed. While I always knew Carmax used vehicles were priced a little higher than if one were to search out a deal on their own and go through the negotiating process, I always thought that they sold quality vehicles that were of some higher level of standard.

I had a conversion van I wanted to sell. We had three cars for two drivers. It booked at a little over $8,000. They offered about $1250.

I sold it two days later for $7,000 to a happy private party.
