Car overheats when stopped

So recently my car has been mildly over heating when im stopped. It doesn't go to the red line but it raises quite a bit. The weird thing is it goes back down if i just rev the engine at 1500 rpm for 5-10 seconds. I recently changed my serpentine belts but they look and sound fine, im confused as to what could be the problem. My fluid levels are fine and i changed the radiator and fluid about a year ago.

Sounds like you didn't tension that shite back right, hombre. (If you touched the belt that powers your water pump.)

(And if it's not an auto tensioner.)

Check fans fluids and cracks in radiator.

I had a '97 626 I drove the wheels off of that did the same exact thing. Multiple times.

Always seemed to be a radiator or fans, or belts that ran fans.

Maybe a slow crack in your radiator, homeslice.

Also, what kind of car? Fan electric or crank driven?

it's the thermostat... Had a car that did the same thing. Easy fix...

Fan cycling on and off or staying on?

Double check how the water pump is powered. If you touched that belt, double check it.

Fluid level in expansion tank?

I'm pretty sure it's gonna be pump related since it cools off when you spin the motor up some.

Just hope it isn't a turbo cooking.

I'd check fan, thermostat and water pump. In that order.

re: Car overheats when stopped
How would a thermostat cause the temperature gauge to fluctuate once it's open? Maybe a temperature sensor, but a thermostat?

Had a buddy with a VR-4 that would could boil off all his coolant in about 10 minutes because of a bad turbo.

Poor car had to be put down.

re: Car overheats when stopped
The only way it's the thermostat is if it's partially open and running the engine at 1500RPMs is the magical point at which enough coolant gets through it.
