I agree 100% with you. The media slant is to blame in my opinion. Because of the frenzy the media causes, race baiters such as Al Sharpton prosper. Just like any other profession, others see him doing well and they want to be like him - ostensibly for progress, but monetarily motivated only. When we as a whole face real adversity, all this hate seems to subside (9/11, Katrina, etc.) which tells me there is hope. I also see a loss of national pride. Think how passionate we are about our collegiate/pro teams. Imagine if we all had the same feelings towards our country. Some do, but a lot don't...unfortunately.

It's too broad is my point. You didn't understand that? Also read the OP u just said exactly what I said an African American should be, a person who has an African parent and an American parent. Cmon man you gotta read before you call people names.

I never liked saying African-American because it was too long and just sounded awkward and clunky when using it to describe a person. I just go by black, but if people want to be called African-American, then they have that right and it's not up to me or anyone else to dictate what they should be called.

Nigerian-American? African-American was started as a way to unify black people. It doesn't fully recognize their heritage, as it only points to the fact that they are a person of African decent. The term originated for decedents of slaves who largely were unsure of which countries their ancestors were from.
In more contemporary times, it doesn't always make sense as you are now having black migrants that largely identify with their country of origin than other so called African-American groups. My friend's wife identified as Caribbean American.
