I don't know anything about this area and a job opportunity may be in the works soon. It's just the wife and I but starting a family likely to happen within the next 3-5 years. We've lived happily in several cities (some of them very big) so we're comfortable with being in a more densely populated area. I'd have to say we would like to find our next home in a more suburban setting with a little more room. We both love outdoor activities: hiking, camping, fishing, boating, beach, etc... I really would prefer to commute 30 min or less but I dont know if this is possible given our desire to find a family friendly/quiet community.

I'm just looking for personal experiences and your thoughts about living there. Or some specific things I should research more?

TIA

Wife's sister's husband finished dental school down there.
Plenty of good fishin.
How bad do you need to get back up this way to hunt?
It a nice place with plenty of good food, etc. But if you're settin up shop, and need to be closer to woods, it's a long haul.

I currently live in the northeast. I like to hunt but fishing has always been my true passion. Couple duck huntin trips per year to somewhere along the mississippi would probably be ok if I knew I'd get plenty of good fishing at home.

Get used to large number of hispanics everywhere. South Florida is nice place with lovely weather.

Loved ft. Lauderdale. Very tropical feel and some very nice areas. Not familiar with the best neighborhoods to live there though. Just visited recently. Good luck

Lived there and hated it. I work there a few months out of the year, now, and enjoy it. Good luck.

Duck hunting is good around Jacksonville. Not LA good, but it's ok. Plenty of hog hunting around Melbourne.

No shite, he said 2-3 trips a year. That's the best you are gonna do for that area.

I would not recommend Cooper City. If you want to be close to Ft Lauderdale, check out Coconut Creek, Parklawn, Weston, Coral Springs.

I love it down there. If you're into boating and fishing what's not to like. It's the boating capital of the world. You're a 90min boat ride from the Bahamas. You can take day trips to the keys. The winter days are in the 80s. I have no clue why I stayed here instead of moving there.

I have a good time when down there. Food is subpar but that's about my only complaint.

It's on top of my list of places for a vacation home.

As for living there full time I'm better off where im at when comparing salaries and cost of living.

I'd also need a plane because it's hard to find a good flight there out of lafayette.
