Troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop D stopped a privately owned 2004 Toyota Tundra for traffic violations on Interstate Highway 10 Eastbound in Sulphur. After speaking to the driver, 28-year-old Derek Nothnagel of Lake Charles, Troopers asked for permission to search the vehicle. Nothnagel refused to grant permission. Authorities say a K-9 officer was brought to the scene and indicated the presence of illegal drugs in the vehicle. A search of the truck uncovered approximately eighteen pounds of marijuana in a duffle bag.

Actually, the SCOTUS just held this term that you better have articulable suspicion to make someone wait on a dog arrive.

Refusal to allow a search doesn't give you suspicion to wait on the dog.

I'm sure a cop with 18 lbs of weed in his truck was probably doing something that was suspicious though.

improper lane usage, following too close and expired inspection decal. You big dummy, but I doubt the cops saw this before they pulled him over. Cops must have some X-ray shite on I-10, thou?

Ha.. I know him. Well, I know his parents actually. They were Realtors at my old firm and his dad is a contractor. I have known them for a while now and they are pretty nice people with a little money so not sure why their son needs to transport drugs.

I assume he was stopped for the lane usage and following too close.

Well it appears they didn't do a very good job with his background check.

I am glad he has been caught.

I doubt he was getting any significant amount of money from them.

Guess the military did a bad background check too?

The guy has never been in trouble before, so how are they supposed to know?

He just better thank god he didn't get arrested in Beauregard parish for that shite.
