Called the OMV this morning---Ridiculous

The Story:
New car insurance with Safeco is effective 6/30
Old insurance with State Farm is canceled 7/21 but back dated to 6/25
OMV says I still owe $125 fee because I "technically wasn’t covered for 5 days
I tell her that actually, "technically" I was covered for those 5 days but your computer is where it says I wasn’t covered.
Any thoughts?

Realize the mental capacity of most OMV workers and just pay the $125.
There once was a ten day grace period, but that changed last year.
If you're in a fighting mood, you could probably call State Farm and have them print a letter.

Use the premium refund to pay the fine. You thought you were being smart when you did the retroactive cancellation, but it is biting you in the arse now.

They are stringent on those fines and will flag your license if it is not paid

Why would you cancel the State Farm insurance effective 6/25 if your new Safeco insurance didn't start until 6/30? Pay the damn fine...

It wasn't me that did it. 6/25 I believe was the renewal date. My parents canceled when it was time to have my own car insurance.

Jones got a ticket a while back.
Paid the ticket.. then it was refunded because apparently the person who accepted his payment was not the right department.
Paid the ticket again.. it was refunded because apparently THAT person who accepted his payment was not the right department.
Paid the ticket a 3rd time and left to go out to sea for the summer. Well apparently that payment was ALSO refunded for the same reason.. and no message was left for him letting him know it was refunded.
He received a letter in the mail yesterday saying he failed to show to a court date and his license is now suspended and he must pay $100 to get it reinstated regardless of the outcome of the court decision.
Last I spoke to him, he said his license should be reinstates tomorrow, but I would not be at ALL surprised if they still make him pay the $100 reinstatement fee because they'll claim that ticket payment offices have nothing to do with them and the fee is from them for reinstating regardless of reason.
Such bullshite.

You or your parents should have orchestrated this better.

Read above. They told me to get car insurance, I got it and then told them it was effective and they canceled my State Farm.

then you need to call your parents and tell them they were stupid for cancelling the insurance to a time before you bought insurance.
They likely received a premium refund. You owe the fine. pay it and move on.

I've received enough tickets to know that the ticket specifically states where to send payment.

Still technically your responsibility but that's shitty on your parents' part to not make sure the cancellation date aligned with your new effective date.

There's your problem. Did you really expect to talk to someone who isn't a full blown retard? Even that's an insult to the mentally handicapped out there.

Why did you do this? Trying to save a few $$ Why not make it effective on the same day as the new coverage.
I side with the OMV, they are 100% in the right

That loop ain't gonna build itself baw

I understand that part and will most likely end up paying it, although I will fax in my documentation and hope for the best.
What's irritating is that at no point in time did I not have insurance. If something were to have happened 6/26 I would have had coverage. If I were pulled over, the cop would have seen I had coverage but I switch and 5 days gets lost in the shuffle and bam $125 fine. That's ridiculous.

I know. That's where he got the number. The payment kept being refunded from that department and then the people they'd transfer him to.
Last ticket I got, I called twice a week every week until the court date and every single time, they couldn't find the ticket on file. I got a bench warrant months later.
