I understand I will pay sales tax (~10%)

what documents are required? Bill of sale and proof of insurance?

I believe I have 90 days to do this?

If you are buying from a dealership they will collect the taxes and mail everything to Louisiana dmv. Bought a car a few months ago in Houston and everything was taken care of. If you are buying from an individual you will need the title and bill of sale that has been notarized.

Yes, did the same with a private purchase of a vehicle registered in TN.

Even if he did....this is Mister Honor "tax and spend" Code JBE's Louisiana and by gawd he's gonna pay tax again, and again, and again.....

Son, you're taking that vehicle from the state of Texas to the state of Taxes. Will dees be debik or credik? With a state fee for either/both and taxes on that fee too!

Notarized title or bill of sale.

If you have the title notarized, that will work as bill of sale.

Take it to the dmv with proof of insurance and you're good to go.

Bill of sale and maybe Texas registration- you can go to la DMV website search around and depends on your parish you can get a idea of your costs.
You can go to a local notary type office and it takes about 15 minutes and the take your money and give you the plate and your registration

There is a lot of incorrect information in this thread.

Texas and Mississippi are non notary states.

Louisiana abides by their rules when bringing a vehicle into Louisiana.

This means you need, a title, a bill of sale, and a copy of the seller's ID if it was a private party sale. Proof of insurance is not required for a Louisiana title. It is required for Louisiana registration. You do not need anything notarized when bringing them in from those states.

You will pay taxes here on the amount written on your bill of sale.

These are now audited, so don't go too crazy changing the amount you bought it for.

I just did this last week. The dealer will give you all the paperwork to carry to the Louisiana DMV. You get a new LA temp tag in place of theTexas tag. The only issue is you won't have an inspection sticker until your LA registration comes in.
