BRPD dealing with fewer applicants, increase in open positions

The Baton Rouge Police Department is trying to fill 54 open positions that are currently available. It comes at a time when applications to become a Baton Rouge Police Officer are down

The numbers back that up:
In 2014, there were 435 applicants and 35 hires.
In 2015, there were 354 applicants and 58 hires.
In 2016, there were 338 applicants and 37 hires.
In 2017, there have been 140 applicants and six hires.

Same with NOPD. They're right at 1150 officers down from 1500 just 6 years ago.

Background checks are racist!

Who in their right mind would want that job? Go be a plumber or an auto mechanic and make more Money without having to deal with trash and constant race cards.

Has nothing to do with the police being villainized by half the city for sure. Actions never have consequences

The people want Liberia. They will get Liberia.

I bet cop haters will complain when the streets are like war zones and murder rates double. I'm surprised we still have as many cops as we do now. I have so much respect for those guys.

They are comparing full years of data to less than 5 months in 2017? Am I missing something? They are on pace with last year for number of applicants, and maybe better if the numbers don't include may. Poorly written article, fake news, etc

Just fill those positions with random black people and crime will plummet.
If you can tear down some statues, you might even reduce crime to zero. Literal zero.

No background checks, no education requirements, no drug tests, guaranteed promotions. This will fit their agenda and rebuild the department as they desire.

Well they want the police force to reflect the demographic they serve, so I guess that's a good plan?

What is the low applicant count doing to the salary? Seen a jump in the minimum at all? Also, have there been any job requirement change or are they broadening their candidate base by making it easier to qualify?

1. Who wants to do that thankless job.
2. 54 positions, 140 applicants why can't they fill them?

Jeff Asher showed the latest numbers for NOPD last week and the number is now 1068 officers.

Have a friend that just graduated the BRPD academy. When he was going through the hiring process they thought he was lying when he said he had never been arrested. Almost every applicant has an arrest for something.
