BRPD and EBRSO Are Currently Understaffed By 167 Officers

Is there any chance of this changing?
With active duty military being downsized, there may be a few to pick up from those ranks, but overall, I only see this trend continuing as long as we have idiot politicians and idiot populace demonizing police for taking down criminals.
How can these agencies possibly fill their ranks? Just to fill the BRPD shortage alone is two full academy classes without any officers leaving or retiring.

And yet they still have plenty of time to set up speed traps on Stanford Avenue.

Have they done this lately? I used to see them at the beach all the time, but haven't seen anybody there in a while.

I've said this before. Why would any cop worth a damn want to go to work in EBSO, BRPD, or NOPD? Especially when they can get a job in one of the surrounding parish departments for comparable money with a community that supports them?

You'd have to be mad to try to be a police officer here right now. This was to be expected

Their new spot is under the mall overpass trying to catch people getting onto 10 & (God -forbid), going 50mph

What does a beginning BRPD rookie make? How much overtime and special duty is available to him? How much does special duty pay now?
How much does sitting on the porch pay?

This is misleading data.
What is their staffing percentage rate? Do those figures mean they are staffed at 95%? Higher? Lower?
Why not give some historical context? What are staffing levels from prior years? What data establishes proper staffing levels?
Could it not also be true that being understaffed at these levels is still the highest staffing level in the past 20 or 39 years?
Clearly these figures are posted for the sole purpose of misleading. Otherwise we'd see more complete information.

They'll get exactly what they voted for. Letting criminals run free is essentially what Broome ran on. What bothers me is that we are so low on officers and the ones we do have are running call to call in the hood, while the hood is breaking into home and bothering working class people across town.

What a misleading stat.
166 new officers and we would be crime free????
Come on.

Seems like I heard recently that there were only 2 - 3 cadets in the recent BRPD training class.
Maybe someone on here can confirm.

I want to say around $32K. I'm sure they get plenty of overtime, but they likely suck. Special duty for LSU footballs games is $55/hr.

They just graduated a fairly large class, but it still barely made a dent, and one is already off the road as they investigate the shooting he was involved in on Acadian.

Not exactly what I'm saying. If we can max out staffing, the officers get a bit of breathing room and can do some proactive policing and there are more resources to investigate crimes. A greater police presence can absolutely reduce crime. Nobody expects crime to disappear, unless you live in New Orleans now that Robert E Lee is gone.
