Not sure how the OT isn't all over this one yet. What do you think, off-duty BRPD involved in this is an issue or not? It certainly doesn't help that it is an open case.

Baton Rouge police investigate officers on Spanish Town float that mocked alleged ‘Sons of Guns’ sex abuse victim

Former “Sons of Guns” co-star Stephanie Ford says a Spanish Town Parade float that mocked her reported sexual abuse was carrying a Baton Rouge police officer who continued to make fun of her on Facebook.

Now three members of the police force are facing an internal investigation for their possible involvement with the float, including an officer who works in the Internal Affairs department.

For several years, Ford and her father, Will Hayden, have been in the public eye as co-stars on the Discovery reality show “Sons of Guns,” which portrayed the daily workings of the family’s gun dealership in Baton Rouge. The show was canceled in August after Hayden’s arrests on charges he raped two preteen girls. He now faces aggravated rape cases in both East Baton Rouge and Livingston parishes.

On Friday, Ford’s spokesman Adam Handelsman provided photos of a Spanish Town float for the “Krewe of Sleaziana” that reportedly showcased disparaging words about Ford and her father.

Underneath an altered image of Ford’s face were the words “A face only a daddy could love” and “Red Jack It Firearms,” which is a reference to Hayden’s gun shop, Red Jacket Firearms. Another photo showed Hayden’s mug shot.

In a written statement, Baton Rouge Police Chief Carl Dabadie said, “The theme of this float in no way represents the belief or attitude of the Baton Rouge Police Department. The struggle a sexual assault victim endures is a very serious matter and is not something that should be taken lightly or used in a satirical manner.”

Lt. Jonny Dunnam, a Baton Rouge Police spokesman, emphasized that the officers were off-duty and that neither Ford nor anybody else has made a formal complaint with the department.

The three officers being investigated are Donald Young, John B. Fontenot and Douglas Atkins, he said.

Young is a member of the Internal Affairs department, and Fontenot is a member of the DWI Task Force.

Thank goodness this won't pull them away from investigating any murders. If this investigation results in one fewer speeding, inspection sticker, seatbelt, or DUI ticket, I'm all for it.

Were they in uniform when they did this? Did they break a law? Violate a code of conduct? If not, who fricking cares? If so, they get what they get.

this story is bullshite just like most of the stories that involve notorious people who want to play victim (pardon the pun). The old man is a pedo. She is his (daughter) victim. Get over your sore arse (again, pardon the pun).

I guess the First Amendment doesn't apply to off duty police officers. It is one thing to criticize them for poor taste/judgement, but to officially sanction them is just plain contradictory to the ideals of the First Amendmant.

Anyone that knows the story behind Stephanie knows she's looking to cash in on her dwindling fame to make a living. Her and her husband are typical LP through and through. Not saying she wasn't abused, but I've never seen anyone try to cash in on an event that caused them so much pain like she is.

They actually opened up another gun shop over off of Sherwood.

All pertinent questions. Does that absolve them or any responsibility? I am torn on it. I wouldn't have done that but that doesn't mean it is something they should get in trouble over.

no, I'm pretty sure it was them that did it. But unless they violated a departmental policy, I don't think they should be censured for poor taste.

FTR, I realize she was sexually abused and I'm not marginalizing that. But to cry foul over a Mardi Gras float when she put herself on Dr.Phil and in the media is disingenuous IMO.

I don't know her, but we all gotta make a living somehow. She knows the biz of selling guns, and maybe nothing else. Why change now?

No matter her occupation, she's going to live with the story.

I know on any of the floats I rode on, I had zero to do with the decorations.

It is one thing if they are the ones that actually designed the float but if all they did was ride on the float in the parade, then this is stupid and getting blown way out of proportion

I wonder how much cash they actually pulled down from that show? It played for quite a few years and I'm sure it brought a lot of business to their shop too. You would think they'd have a nice little nest egg from all that.

I'm not sure how the profits were set up, because Will lost his gunsmithing/FFL license after he "lost" several firearms, registered to him/the shop so Joe Meaux/Charlie had to actually "own" the shop to keep it legal.

Once they were kicked out of red jacket after the arrests and rape stuff, I'm not sure they were entitled to much if any of the company's profits or "nest egg".
