This is pretty scary.

You pull over for an actual police cruiser.
Men come out dressed as detectives, then steal your car.

Police recovered the cars, not the suspects.

Police say the suspects used a stolen white, Ford Crown Victoria to pull over the victim near the corner of Tupelo Street and St. Claude Avenue in the Lower Ninth Ward.

Investigators say a 57-year-old man was driving down St. Claude Avenue when he saw flashing lights in his rearview mirror. When he pulled over, two men in plain clothes got out of a white Crown Victoria and flashed a badge.

"As they asked him to step out of the car. They asked him to put his hands on the hood of the car, and as he did that they walked to his car and jumped in," said New Orleans Police 5th District Commander Chris Goodly.

Pretty low chance of happening again though. People getting in fender benders to carjack you is much scarier.

And for the "Jefferson is going to shite" crowd, the Crown Vic was stolen from a JP Justice of the Peace Investigator. I assume from somewhere in Jefferson Parish.

Wouldn't you think a police car, marked or unmarked, would have a tracking device on it?

I was thinking the same thing. I know that Kenner has the GPS tracking units on the trunk lid. I would think they all do now.

Or how about a want to notify the public, since if someone stole a police cruiser seems there would more often than not be a devious motive behind that very risky action.

I think they stole the Crown Vic in the afternoon and carjacked the other guy that night. Depending on where the car was taken from and other circumstances, I guess it's possible JP didn't even realize it was missing yet. It's still pretty crazy.

A few years ago, some a-hole(s) broke in to the trunk of a cop's car parked in front of his home. I think it was JPSO and, I think, it was a marked unit. They stole a bunch of stuff, including a Kevlar vest, the deputy's issued sidearm and his personal AR-15. Apparently, the deputy had small kids in the house and so secure place for the weapons. It couldn't have been good for his career...
