crazy just looked at it on google maps and at that point it's literally the only road west, and you would have to cut through northern Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota to go around.
Even though Ontario extends for another 500+ miles to the north at this point to Hudson Bay, there is no other road that crosses the river.
