BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
Around 5 p.m., an 18-wheeler stalled on the Mississippi River Bridge headed west. Traffic congestion built up all the way to I-10/I-12 split. The stalled 18-wheeler was cleared around 7:15 p.m., however a DPS officer on the scene reportedly locked his keys in his unit.

As of around 8:15 p.m., the DPS unit is still on the scene waiting for a spare key. Traffic is still heavily backed up due to this incident.

I think breaking the window is justified here.

Absolutely. That traffic is backed up well past the split. Just break a window and get it off the road.

Cops have no problem bashing in your window without a warrant. But I suppose not for this instance.

I hope he doesn't get too upset about this and start shooting innocent dogs.

Think about it if that offending vehicle was a ordinary Jane/Joe private citizen's car.

You think the DPS would wait for them to fetch the keys?

Dumb pieces of shite.

The tram between LSU and downtown BR would have prevented this....

Probably pretty hard to break the window if it's made of bulletproof tacticool glass.

In 2011 they opened the Saint Francisville bridge that cost $409 million and carries 3,400 vehicles a day. It is 20 miles north of Baton Rouge.

The new I-10 bridge in BR carries 108,658 vehicles a day in 2014. It has 4 major roads feeding into it:
1. Eastbound I-10
2. Westbound I-10
3. Westbound I-12
4 Southbound I-110

Westbound I-10 at the bridge is the only place in the country where any Interstate narrows to one lane! This creates a huge bottleneck with any large volume of traffic.

Was this information not available to the DOT when they planned a new bridge and placed it in Saint Francisville?

After this brilliant decision, do you think the feds will give Louisiana another half billion dollars to build another bridge in Baton Rouge anytime soon?
