A disgruntled student armed with several weapons opened fire at a Washington state high school Wednesday, killing a classmate who tried to reason with him and wounding three others before he was captured, police said.
And the death toll at Freeman High School south of Spokane might have been even higher if the shooter's first weapon hadn't jammed at the outset, Spokane County Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich said.
"This would have been a lot worse if it didn't," he said. "That student came to school armed. He entered the school. He proceeded to take his weapons out. At that point he attempted to fire one weapon, it jammed. He went to his next weapon."

Knezovich did not identify the gunman or the brave student who tried to engage the shooter when his first gun jammed.
"It sounds like he tried to walk up and tell him, 'I'm not, this isn't what you want to do'," the sheriff said.
But the armed student wasn't swayed by those words and shot him.
"He then fired more rounds down the hallway, striking three more students and those students are in the hospital right now in serious condition," the sheriff said.
Knezovich did not go into detail about how the rampage at the school in the town of Rockford ended, but he credited "some fairly courageous action by a member of the Freeman School staff."
"This is another example of somebody that had a lot of courage, stepped up and stopped this before it got worse," he said.

Both the FBI and the ATF have dispatched investigators to the scene to help with the investigation.
"Typically, that could be as straightforward as additional manpower but we are also poised to offer specialized resources if needed," and FBI spokeswoman told NBC News.
Meanwhile, school is canceled Friday.
"This morning's shooting at Freeman High School is heartbreaking," Gov. Jay Inslee said in a statement. "As Spokane County officials continue their investigation to get the answers to the questions so many of us have during these unthinkable tragedies, the Washington State Patrol and all state agencies will do whatever we can to help provide support and comfort in the days and weeks to come."

fricking terrible. How do these kids get their hands on multiple guns?

Why did he try to talk a kid down with a jammed gun instead of tackling him? Obviously brave enough to approach. Very sad.

Sounds like a brave young man gave his life to try and save others.

they probably get an older kid to go to a gun show or pawn shop, or hell i think you can buy online, right? some of those wealthy kids' parents give them virtually unlimited access to money.

Maybe they steal them? Or maybe you go get all of the guns out of dads closet. If it wasn't a gun, it would be something else. Not hard to drive a car into a crowd and hurt people.

yeah, this is just flat out demonstrably false, and lazy thinking

you gonna drive a car into a school and down the hallway?

It's amazing that no wars or murders occurred on this planet before guns were invented.

This is the OT. I've tried to tell people here they don't need to keep multiple guns in their home and that idea was poopoo'ed real fast.

You can ram it into mass amounts of students leaving in the parking lot dipshit

hell i think you can buy online, right?
You have proven you have no clue what you are talking about. While cash is exchanged online, you are not the owner of the gun until the gun is shipped to an FFL in your state and you fill out the 4473 yourself.

There is no loophole where some little shite stain can buy a gun online. Buying a gun online can be as easy as anything else but you have to have it shipped to a FFL and they have to verify the age and process the proper paper work.

I get what your saying but maybe parents should lock up their guns if they have a little weirdo running around the house.
I'm pretty sure if little Jonny is playing dungeons and dragons I'm probably going to lock up my guns much faster than if little Johnny is playing sports.
Most of these kid gun shootings come down to irresponsible gun ownership and parents being in denial that their kids are having issues at school. Most of those issues probably come from bullying.

Absolutely. People blow themselves up in schools in the middle east fairly frequently.
