The fact that this is a recurring issue is fricking bull shite. I wonder if the parish will be refunding water bills for the next 60 days bc they didn't do their damn job.

Everyone in the treatment facility should be fired.

THIS. I mean, let's be honest. Do people realize this shite doesn't happen in any other State in the union. I love Louisiana but damn it really is somewhat third world down here at times.

Its uncanny. I work at a water treatment unit in a refinery and the damn DEQ is so far up our asses its unbelievable. On top of that we take 4 water samples at various stages of the process to ensure the pH and cleanliness, yet the govt. run facilities cant keep deadly bacteria out the water source?

Its bullshite and should not be tolerated, but as I said its govt, and govt in LA no less, so nothing will come of it.

Is this amoeba affecting Geismar and Dutchtown areas (off 74 near Bluff)? It says a community north of Donaldsonville but that's all it says.

Dude it's so bad...in Northeast Louisiana the water is yellowish/brown when you take a bath, tap water from sink, water in toilet.

We stayed in a hotel in West Monroe, Nice hotel. Water in toilet was yellow-brown, when you brush teeth water in sink was yellow0brown. Told GF it's always been like that. When i went to visit grandparents in Richland Parish, water been yellowish- brown as long as I could remember.

I'm sure there's some employees there that don't directly control brain eating omeba. 11 up votes too, yall some cold hearted folks and no I don't work there.
Edit to give brasstomouth props for having an awesome screen name. Always wondering if I crossed paths with the military dudes I see posting here.

If you're going to use a neti pot (which you shouldn't), and use tap water for it, boil the water first. People have gotten this amoeba that way.

The amoeba is present in just about every water source in the south...it's widespread. You can't contract it by ingesting infected water. It's extremely rare to catch it even if you're swimming in infected water because the amoeba does not seek a human host.

It's not as big of a deal as people make it out to be. There has only been like 133 cases of it in the past 50 years.
