Just getting home from work and yard is pretty soaked and water main has been cut off with note left on the door. Assuming there is a leak between the meter and my house. This fricking blows. Plumber recommendations in south BR?

I had the same thing happen a couple of years ago. Do yourself a favor....pack your shite and head to a hotel for the night. You are not likely to get it fixed tonight and you can't even take a shite there without water

save yourself a ton of money if you dig the hole.

Honestly this is a super easy fix.

I'm not exactly sure how dangerous it is to dig around this electrical box.. Leak appears to be centralized right here

You will definitely want the electrical company to mark the lines before you start digging. Don't make that stupid mistake. It may be your last one.

Yeah, I didn't know you had other utilities next to it. This is harder than I thought, though the power line will be in a hard plastic conduit and it's unlikey you will break through it with a shovel, I would still call the hotline for digging, problem is that may add two days.

if the leak is between the meter and your house, the utility guy won't touch it...

The photo looks like a backflow preventer for a sprinkler system in your yard.

Could you possibly close that valve and open your meter valve to see if it's your water service leaking or if it's a sprinkler line in your yard leaking?

Yes that is what it is.. but the sprinkler valve was already closed. The leak just randomly began today while I was at work and someone (fortunately) called BR water to shut it off. The bust is right there where that pile of mud is between the electrical box and backflow preventer, but I'm not gonna mess around with digging near that box.

Gonna call a plumber first thing in the morning and just hope it can get fixed by tomorrow evening.. Gotta shower at a neighbor's place in the morning. But I really just hope this is a few hundred bucks and not into the thousands..

shouldn't be too much...on mine, they found the leak and just cut a piece of pipe and spliced in a new one with a couple of compression couplings. I had it already dug out, but it didn't take them more than a half hour.

ETA: man, that area is just crowded with utilities...looks like water, power, and telephone all within three feet right there...

Good to know... just a little worried that the electric box might complicate things

Call either of the two I listed and it will be fair and fixed right. Not a hard fix, just a dig.
