My wife and I are discussing where we would send our kids to school. We are interested in the BR Magnet school for high school. It seems to get great reviews and test scores.

To get into the school, it is based on qualifications and exam scores, not school district. Is there any feeder schools that best prepare kids for the BR Magnet School. Any thoughts on BR Magnet or elementary magnet schools? I am interested in the Montessori schools we have for elementary school. Any thoughts on those too?

I thought Montessori schools were like free range hippie schools? The kids learn by expressing themselves, or something dumb like that.

Foreigners or nerds don;t bother me- a school not living up to its reputation does.

Make sure the Montessori school is legit and that they are not just using the name. Best way is to know if they are legit is to have a good understanding of the Montessori Method.

Currently, the magnet elementary schools (including the Montessori programs at Dufrocq and Belfair Elem.) feed into the magnet middle school programs, and the magnet middle schools have priority admission into BRMHS. You have to live within EBRPSS boundaries to get into any of those schools, so it does go by school district. (Unless you meant school attendance zone, and while some magnet schools do give priority to those living near the school, people outside the zone but still within EBRP school district can still attend.)

I have heard good things about the Montessori magnet programs from parents who had kids at other private Montessori schools and transferred. Dufrocq also has an academic magnet program and a traditional program at their school, but I think Belfair may be going towards offering just a Montessori program and extending the grades into middle school. You have to start early in the Montessori programs though; they only take them in pre-K or Kindergarten unless you transfer from another Montessori school.
