Boat or pool, bigger money pit?

I have been contemplating getting either an unground pool or boat by the end of next year. I think I would use the pool more day to day, but the boat is a getaway for the family. After the initial cost(pool would obviously be slightly more), which is more of a money pit in the long run?

Depends on the price of the boat. Pool for most people on the OT.
Getting a decent Mastercraft is a bigger money pit.

Well, a pool is a LITERAL money pit.
At least a boat could save you in a flood.

Pool by far. I bought a brand new Mastercraft in 2013 and haven't had to do anything besides regular maintenance on the boat.

If it flies, floats or fricks, its cheaper to rent it.

If it's a boat that stays in the water, boat by far.
The pool isn't bad, after the initial cost to build and the defense attorney's fees for attempted murder of a pool builder ( fortunately, a misdemeanor ).
Both are gonna run you about the same with insurance and upkeep.

Live in Katy and have a pool. I say it is push.
Gotta pay for boat storage out here unless you leave it. Either way, you are paying rent to store it.
If you live out in the country then different story.
With eBay and Amazon u can greatly reduce pool chemical costs. Don't think many boat parts and service are on eBay.

depends on the boat, but a pool for sure.
At least you can sell the boat without moving and having a pool can be a detractor on a house sale

Happiest two days of a boat owners life- when he buys it, then sells it.

depends on the size and type of either one. Copper ion pools are more expensive up front, but cost less in maintenance. Traditional chlorine pools are the cheapest up front, but are expensive to maintain with all of the chemicals. Salt Water pools are between the two and are easy to maintain up until all of that salt corrodes the pipes causing a MASSIVE renovation cost down the line.

Depends on the boat.
48' sportfisher? HUGEEEEEE money drag
14' aluminum welded boat with a 30hp motor? Not a problem.

My parents have a decent pontoon, bought it used off CL, it's nothing special, but it's fun.
I had a Yamaha Waverunner for 5 years, paid 7k for it...sold it a few months ago for 4.5k. So, I'd say pool is bigger money pit, as long as you don't buy new, you can usually get out of boats okay. You are stuck with the pool.

I'd be looking more of a 18-21 ft Fish/ski. My thought is that I could get rid of the boy if it becomes too much of a problem, but the pool is here to stay no matter what.
