I bought a 428 for my wife this year. Never owned a BMW before. The 4 cyl turbo seems great. Very fun car to drive.

I know the Infiniti Q50 has the electronic steering but I thought the BMW still has the mechanical steering.

The infinity has a completely different system for no reason at all. All manufacturers have moved to EPS. Electric power assist.

I know they are good cars, but there is a large group of a-holes that buy these and it makes them so less appealing.

Similar to old people and Caddys and Indians and Hondas.

Living in Dallas, there are so many of these on the roads and they driven by the stereotypes you expect

I love me some German engineering. I haven't owned a BMW yet, but we bought a Jetta TDI and love it. Maybe I'll crossover and try one on the next purchase.

My brother-in-law has one. I got to drive it back from Missouri this summer. It was alright, but I'm a bigger fan of our TDI. It's far more comfortable, better MPG, fewer blind spots, and cheaper out the door. I haven't driven a BMW, so I have no solid opinion on them as of yet.

People that disparage the 3 because of "wannabe status symbols" are the same morons that buy things for status.

They corner like they're on rails, and are as quick off the line.

I've always been a fan of 1990's BMW's, it's my favorite 3 series and 7 series and the 8 series is my favorite BMW of all time.

Buy a Bently Publishing manual on your series and DIY your own work.

They hit their peak in the late 90's and early 2000's. I had two e39's during that span. A 535 and an M5. I sold my M5 2 years ago for a new 550. Still regret it this day. The e39 M5 is the best bimmer ever built. The last great truly mechanical bmw.

If you want to depress yourself, go to BMW’s online configurator and you’ll notice there is no manual transmission option on the 2016 228i, 328i and 428i models. Hopefully, this is just a glitch.

Many of us moaned when BMW replaced the naturally aspirated six with a turbo four. While the new N20 series engine delivered more power and efficiency, it lacked the character of the N52 motor. The one consolation for removing those two cylinders, was the fact that we could still get a third pedal on the floor. With the exception of only one car, that is no longer the case.

According to the configurator, you can still get a manual transmission on the much more expensive 235i, 340i, and 435i models that have the turbocharged six cylinder motor. That means if you want to row your own, you will have to pony up an extra $7,000 for the 4 series, $7450 for the 3 series and a whopping $11,300 for the 2 series.

The stick is still a no cost option on the M3 and M4, but considering this alarming trend, that may be in jeopardy in the future. This may be partly due to the fact that some people, that call themselves enthusiasts, don’t believe that a manual is the right option for those M cars.

The majority of BMW owners are not going to DIY car maintenance.

The owners basically fall into two categories: those who buy them for status symbols, and those who truly enjoy the cars and the "driving experience." This is why BMW makes so many different series and trims of basically the same platform and largely variable price ranges. They're appealing to all ranges.
