My husband and I both have iPad's, so this would mostly be for iTunes storage, photo storage/editing, and Microsoft Office useage.

For that little of use I'd probably get the cheapest walmart one out there. You seem like you don't really need any high end specs.

Get a notebook and use a portable hard drive. Best thing we ever did. Get rid of the desktop. Desktops are like console tv's. You get more affordable and never ending space with portable hard drives. We keep pictures, movies and important stuff on one that i back up every few months and leave in a safety deposit box. Pics and home movies are always safe. Itss easy as plug and play.

That is a good suggestion. If the OP doesn't want to do that, get a Mac Mini. It won't clutter up like most desktops, is pretty cheap, and would go with their ipads. I do like your idea about the external hard drive. That is what I use.

Nothing great for your needs on slickdeals except maybe:

17" refurbished laptop that may be a bit overkill for your needs. It's a big screen and, eventually, you're going to use the portability. I don't think I would buy a desktop except for high end office/gaming use.

We invested in a Macbook Pro and its been awesome. I just didn't want to start a Mac debate that people love to get into. External Hard drive is easy and affordable.

I bought my wife a MacBook Pro. She loves it. The op can get away with the mini if they like the apple products. I do use an external for pics and movies mainly. I bring it when I have to go out of town for work or something.

If thats all you're doing, check outan all in one, like from HP. Then just get a portable Hdd for extra storage if you run out.

Uh, installing a new drive on your desktop is almost as easy as plugging in a portable drive. Less expensive too.

Unless you need portability a desktop offers much better bang for the buck.

Yes captain asshat, I was showing her a solution away from a desktop that served the same function. And served it quite easily.

Judging by the thread title she's looking for a desktop, so your post doesn't help. It's also more expensive.
