Both stolen thanks to my little brother while I was in college I miss the days of cruising the neighborhood every afternoon. Do kids still do that?

Heck this is some nostalgia here.

I had:
purple Dyno Compe, pegs and a gyro
Chrome Mongoose Menace
Mongoose Supergoose
Haro group 1 (maybe)

All of the above minus the Supergoose were stolen.

Also had a GT performer for a very short time.

Felt? Hoffman?

Let's take it old school with the 88 Dyno Pro Compe team model (recently rebuilt with my son, old school parts). This, and the 88 GT PFT are the holy grail for Freestyle bikes.

Parted out, this sled is worth $2500-3000.

I bought my son a HARO from Danscomp.com a little over $300 but they have free shipping and no tax.

There was a hot pink one of these at my Grandpas house that I would ride sometimes when I was at his house. At first I wouldnt because of the color and the fact that I have never heard of the brand, and it was older but I realized it was pretty bad arse.

My main bike though was redline 540 that I got sometime in the early 90s. My uncle just bought into a bike shop so I got a good deal. All the other kids had 380s.

Here was my pride and joy. It wasn't the GT or Dyno but the kids that had those always wanted to "trade for the day".

If he's not going to be competing on Helltrack for a national championship against Cru Jones or Bart Conner, just go up to Academy, sports authority, or a place like that and pick him out a bike that he likes.

You are overthinking this bigtime.

I don't think I am over thinking it. No, he's not going to appear on the cover of the now defunct BMX Plus and neither were any of us as kids in the 80's who rode good bikes like Mongoose, Diamondback, etc. Now as was the case back then big stores sell crappy bikes. I was asking because things have changed. The older brands are crappy now in many cases and I've never hear of the newer brands.

I want to get him something that'll hold up when he jumps a ramp like I did, and I think kids still do today.

Also, what's up with the tiny front sprocket? Is that for freestyle bikes, short bursts or something?
What might be the equivalent of my 1983 Diamondback Silver Streak? I beat the crap out of that jumping old refrigerators and it kept going.
