from my med school days in the 90's I remember two shootings there (ben taub) - one was an old guy who went in and shot his wife who had alzheimer's - that got the metal detectors installed.
the other one was a guy who tried to rob the roach coach in the parking lot near the golf course at 2 am and got shot by the roach coach guy who was packing

My sister works there but thankfully was off today. She just texted me this...

"I'm not there but have heard from staff that the shooter was in one of the clinics on second floor, no injuries reported"

That's what the live feed kept referring to, but seems like there's no confirmation as of yet that there definitely was a shooting.

Isn't Ben Taub where a lot of the Houston shooting victims go to? They always showed that hospital on First 48.

It's one of two Level One trauma centers in town. The other being Memorial Herman in the same med center.

Always the joke that blue cross gunshot goes to Herman and Medicaid gunshot to Ben Taub.

Don't understand why they don't have a helipad at a hospital of that size.

LBJ is also a county/charity hospital in The Trinity Garden area of H-Town

Ben Taub is infamous. Years ago (late 90's) I would travel with one of my reps who called on Ben Taub as a medical device rep and he would tell stories of gang shooting victims being taken by ambulance to Ben Taub and their buddies would gather outside near the ER entrance. The rival gang would showed up an spray bullets into the crowd, hoping to take out a couple more. It could be an urban legend, maybe some Houstonian can confirm or deny.

Dang. I'd think a helipad would almost be mandatory to be a level 1 trauma center.

Traditionally traumas from inside the loop are guided towards Ben Taub so they mostly have ambulance trauma. Hermann has Life Flight so they get the helicopter.

I trained at UT and that was the word for traumas.
