Before we build the trolley, we need to clear up the River District issues.

From the BR Business ReportLINK

I wouldn't do the trolley just yet, there's a long ways to go before that area will be developed successfully.

“Obviously, they’ll try to fight it,” says Oubre. “But it’s devastating.”

Goldman Sachs Bank reportedly filed a lawsuit against Moreno earlier this month for defaulting on a $52 million loan and is going after the developer’s Nicholson corridor property, as well as other real estate holdings that were put up as collateral.

It's stupid. The trolley is waiting on the River District and the River District is waiting on the trolley

Why does the trolley project need to wait for the other properties to get developed first? The trolley will only add incentive for those properties to be developed.

The RTA in New Orleans is not waiting for Rampart/St.Claude to be redeveloped before they run track down that corridor and neither should Baton Rouge wait. The ridership will most be from the ends of the route anyway, LSU and Downtown.

If Wampold becomes directly involved, and he says its going to get done; I'd feel a whole lot better.

Unlike many other developers who announce projects in hopes that they draw financial funding, he normally is serious and things get built.

You tell me, they built a bridge in St. Francisville thinking if they'd build it they would come, well they are still waiting.

And realistically who lives downtown that needs to ride to LSU? Are there many that do that? I thought people moved downtown to be close to their downtown jobs.

As for students going downtown to party, sure they will but only at night, etc. They won't be travelling there in the day time.

As part of a bigger deal it might work, but without the River District and the Water District a lot of the need goes away.

That whole area is going to gentrify in 10-15 years. All the murder-y elements are going to get pushed out. If I wasn't OT poor I'd start buying up all those $20K shacks down through there. There is a gold mine in that hood between LSU and downtown.

If the area between LSU and Downtown is recovered then that is where everyone will be going.

The Trolley will run from downtown to that area and from LSU to that area.

The SF bridge and the trolley are apples and oranges.

Trolley's will get riders. Trust me. Every tourist and most locals will go out of their way to find a reason to ride that trolley from LSU to downtown. It's more than a simple means of conveyance. It will be a sign of progress in BR, just like the blossoming downtown district has become.

Who's paying for those river district billboards that are up right now?

Sorry. I piggybacked on his nomenclature!

Being a New Orleans guy, the use of streetcar is obviously more natural for me, but I figured maybe the Capital City was trying to distinguish itself from the Crescent City!

Ilocals would likely use a trolley moreso than a tourist starting at LSU because there is not much open parking.

Now some might park downtown and visit lsu
