Anyone know of one? Need to strengthen the legs for downhill hiking.

When I climbed Mt Rainier, uphill was easy. Downhill was tough on the knees and quads, especially the ITband. (I think that's what it was called)

TIA.

Often the simple solution is the correct one.

If your IT band is tight, you can roll it out on the floor with a pad or you can make a roller from a 2 liter bottle with sand or water wrapped in duct tape.

I had the same problem when I climbed Everest the first time. You'll work it out eventually.

I have started taking the stairs at work instead of the elevator. That's 4 flights that I do several times a day.

I want to be able to alter the angle of incline/ decline while wearing backpack for longer distances

I don't believe you. The difference in gravity would have made your quads do a lot less work.

A lot of people complain about having trouble going downhill, but this where I fly when backpacking.

I really struggled as a youth on a Philmont trek. The altitude was brutal and made the slightest incline put me at the back of the group. However, whenever we hit the the portion of the trails that were going downhill I was typically the first one down. Never got hotspots or anything.

It's not technically a "gym" but we do have a really long bridge (longest in the country I believe), and most of it is downhill.

I'm hearing great things about "the sidewalk" - in all seriousness, I would train on the levee. Up - lateral then down.

Costs $0 (depending on where, you might want to carry a gat, though.)
