I want to put in wood floors. Either a solid or a good engineered with a thick top layer. Any recommendations for brands to look at, or warnings for brands to stay away from?

I just put a really nice wood look tile in my new house. It's about $10 a square foot installed but looks amazing and I never have to worry about scratches or refinishing.

how big is the house?
dark stain and two tone stains are hot now but if you don't have large rooms it can make the rooms look very small. wide planks are also hot right now. you will get less movement with the engineered product vs solid. I assume your house is on a slab in south La? make sure installer uses a moisture barrier applied the slab not plastic or tar paper. Then they can glue directly to the slab and new adhesives are very important get the proper adhesive.

Gotta match the wood to your style of house. My favorite is heart pine

Just did my new house in a wood look plank style house. 7.50 a sqft installed. Way better than hardwood.

Hand scraped heart of pine in my shanty.

real wood, distressed/scraped wood is probably the lowest maintenance, best over all looking
