I have a 2007 Tacoma with an aftermarket radio installed. I have a Pioneer AVH-P3100DVD unit and I would like to possibly add a backup camera to my truck to integrate with the unit.

Does anyone have recommendations on a good camera or a specific brand?

The truck is paid off and I don't intend on purchasing a new one for a while as mine is still in great shape and runs fine. I do a lot of hooking up to my boat, lawn mower trailer, etc. so I would like to have an easier way of hooking them up than having to keep getting out of the truck to check how close I am. It's one thing when hooking up the jon boat as I can move that around without having to back up to it but the lawn mower trailer doesn't work the same way when it's loaded down with equipment.

TIA

How about you just learn to drive instead? It's a lot cheaper.

IMO don't get it. Sometimes they can be hidden well, but the vast majority of the time, the backup cameras and sensors and whatnot look extraordinarily stupid on the backs of vehicles.

Backup camera will spoil you. I have it and it makes everything so much easier. The guidelines are outstanding also.

I would just go to a niche forum and look up something that is compatible to your head unit.

twice my kids have parked their bikes behind my car (it was in garage) and i didnt know it and backed over them.

why hate on a camera?

how many of you actually walk behind your vehicle prior to pulling out of your garage?

Quality zinc metal license mount camera frame with IP-67 grade waterproof & dustproof, works well in atrocious weather;

HD Color CMOS (PC1030, 656*492) imager, with 8 infared LEDs, excellent night vision performance, provides safety reversing both in day & night;

Macro camera lens with 170-Deg diagonal wide viewing, 120-Deg up and down tiltable, allows you to adjust it to best shooting angle;

Built-in grid lines as a trapezoid electronic ruler, 3ft measured by every interval, keeps you much more secure while reversing;

Mounts easily on the license plate with the existing screws, ideal for most vehicles that use a standard U.S. or Canada license plate.

$50. done.

all you need.

It's something I never would have thought about getting. Then, a few months back I had a rental car in N.O. that came with the back up camera. It completely changed my opinion. I'm in the same boat as the O.P. I have a 2008 Toyota with only 26K miles. I plan on keeping the car for quite some time as it still runs perfectly. Therefore, I'm definitely planning on adding the backup camera.

ive done the legwork for you already my friend.

that camera above comes in a black frame & stainless steel.

the stainless steel matched the sequioa logos & stuff better so i went with it.

you dont even notice the camera and no need to drill a hole.

for added stealth, i used the vehicle 'touch up' paint to paint the 1" of wire going between the license frame and the license plate light opening.

you cant even see it. looks oem

For the Tacoma, you can go get a new tailgate handle with the hole cut out for the camera and run it through there.
