B-52 from Louisiana squeezes into Oshkosh, Wisconsin

Had to use the parachute and it was a tight fit on Oshkosh's longest runway. It's there at the biggest airshow in the world to commemorate its 60th anniversary. Flew in from Barksdale AFB.

Oshkosh has seen other large aircraft fly in as part of the show. Here's video of an Airbus A380 fighting a crosswind at the show in 2009.

Landing the massive jet bomber at Wittman Regional Airport also presents some logistical challenges. Measuring in at 159 feet long with a wingspan of 185 feet, one of the initial concerns, Holt said, was making sure that the massive aircraft would be able to safely land in Oshkosh.
Because the plane’s wing-tip landing gear spans 148 feet, almost the entire width of Wittman’s largest runway, 6,000 feet of the Oshkosh’s runway lights will need be removed to make space for the B-52 to land.
“We’re landing it on their largest runway, about 8,000 feet by 150 feet. It’s a tight squeeze for us,” Holt said. “We usually land on [runways] 10,000 feet long and 300 feet wide so it’s half the width.”

Any OTers at Osh kosh this year?

If you ever get a chance to go out to EAA airventure, it's just awesome.
You see every type of plane you can imagine.
There is an airshow in the Tamp area that is similar.

The Airbus A380 landing seemed pretty intense

I thought they needed more runway to take off than to land? Are they going to use JATO (or RATO or whatever the frick) to get out of there?

My exact thoughts. After rewatching a couple of times, to see the way the pilot(s) came in and then turned the plane on landing was pretty impressive, and then to be able to control it with that amount of precision.

FWIW, they use that parachute in every landing, even at Barksdale.
I'm happy for the pilots. They probably get tired of circling east Bossier Parish over and over.

No doubt the pilot knows his shite, but if I were any other part of the staff on that plane - that would have been the last flight for me. I would have had to call yellow cab to bring my arse home.

hope I live to see the day that we have a B52 flyover at an LSU football game...

They ditched military flyovers, I thought.

You can see New Orleans from Bossier?

I was last at Oshkosh in 2011, I was standing on the fence line where this F16 came to a stop after over running the runway. Since events like this are usually followed by explosions and fire I hauled butt in the opposite direction.

Thanks, I didn't know that.
As a kid I went to Oshkosh in 1991 and 1994, as an adult, in 2008. Got to see Concorde up close in 1994 and I wanted so badly to fly on her, even subsonic. They were selling 1 hour flights for $700 ($1127 in today's dollars).
I think this picture is actually from 1990 when my mother flew up in a Mooney with a friend of hers and left us at home with dad.

We've had more than one at a ULM game. Usually Armed Forces day.

Our campsite in 2008. Was surprised at how many Aggie tents there were--didn't see any significant concentrations of other universities.
Also Wisconsinites will confuse the old MSU M-state with Michigan State and they will ask you why the colors on your shirt are wrong.
That green Eureka tent was celebrating its 30th anniversary at Camp Scholler. It still had the Oshkosh 1978 camping tag on it.
