I've done a pretty good job of keeping my mileage way under lease term (10,000+ miles under) and the car is in "very good" condition. Has had one accident 2 years ago that qualifies as structure damage according to CarMax. Clean Carfax report though.

CarMax offer to buy was $1200 less than my lease payoff. Slightly more shady place down the street was $2750 to the good of my lease payoff. My new vehicle will be in this coming week, I was already quoted a $1500 positive trade value on it. This is the first time I've done this and the shady place seems like a no brainier right?

Any OTers have experience with this?

There are pros and cons to leasing but I've done two and both have been positive experiences thus far.

My M-I-L beat the crap out of her leased Corrola, my wife had to buy it for her... She basically bought the car twice...

That was before we were married...

Sell it where you'll get the most money. It's a lease so you won't get the tax deduction from trading it in like u would if u owned it.

Uh, the best part of a lease is being able to just return the car and not have to go through this whole process.

Long term renting a car is the dumbest shite ever.

Why would you want to buy a depreciable good?

If you like new cars and don't use a ton of miles, it's dumb NOT to lease.

Not everyone wants to drive the same car for a decade.

I'm not advocating driving grandpas station wagon for 20 years. Cars today look good and run on higher miles. If spending a huge chunk of a paycheck on a rental car is the thing then go for it. I'd rather spend the $400 on something else.

I lease a car and my payment is like 3% of my paycheck. I probably waste money cash on stupid Amazon.com purchases.

I've sold two of my leased vehicles to friends at lease-end and three of them to the dealer I leased my next vehicle from. If your mileage is low and the car is in good condition, you've probably got some equity in it. You're leaving money on the table if you let it go back to the leasing company.

If I were sticking around BR for the next few years I'd have gone and leased a new car after my last major breakdown - I averaged 10 miles per day on my car when all I had to do was work and gym. Leasing is the route to go with that because I'd never have to pay any overages on mileage and I'd be well over value at the end of the lease.

Depending on the market for the used car you are buying new, sometimes buying isn't bad.

You can own a car and sell it 3 years later for less than the cost of leasing the same car for 3 years.

This has happened to me twice.
