Hey OTers,

I just recently made the move to Austin from Lafayette to be closer to my girlfriend, who is in a graduate program at Texas State. I don't start my new job until Monday and was looking to explore the area for a while until then. I know this city is packed full of things to do, but I'm not sure of where to begin. All help will be appreciated.

Drive by bikini hill, or whatever it's called at Texas State. I was amazed at the talent out there a number of years ago. I'm sure the girlfriend won't mind. Good luck!

Go grab a burger and beer at Ski Shores. Mt. Bonnell is worth checking out.

Took the lady friend there Friday. $350 for dinner and a few drinks, but it's the best food in Austin imo.

To the OP: since you have a few days off and the weather is nice, go rent a paddle board, go the the Graffiti Wall, go catch a movie at Alamo Draft house, go hike the Greenbelt. A few suggestions to kill time today.

Also, tonight Alamo Draft house is putting on a "Sound and Cinema". In front of the Long Center, a band plays and then they show a movie. It's on a lawn, so you can bring a blanket to sit on and some food/drink. Best part, totally free.

Yes, very active. Big watch parties at Shoal Creek Saloon and Lavaca St. Bar downtown. Others in various areas around austin.
