I've been through Augusta a few times. I was expecting a really nice Southern town because of the tradition of the golf course and the Master's and all that.

Geez. It was kind of a dump. Really surprising.

That's kind of what I'm seeing too. I expected more.

On Washington Road, the road ANGC is on, is riddled with shopping centers and chain restaurants, etc. Middle class at best.
It's a fairly large city. Not just the golf course, of which you will NOT get close to. Nor will you even realize it was there. Try turning into Magnolia Lane and you will be quickly stopped and forced to back out onto Washington Road.
Plus, the golf course is closed this time of year anyway

Went for the tournament this year. The city itself is kind of a dump, across the river is where all the rich folk live. We stayed in Madison about an hour and a half outside of Augusta, it seemed to have a pretty nice little historic downtown area and nice parks/fishing with a large reserve lake nearby...that's about all the advice I can offer up.

If you like Japanese steakhouses/hibachi, check out a place called Miyabi. It is on Augusta W Parkway, south of 20.

Also go see if you can find the gypsy neighborhoods - drive around and watch them all run inside and watch you from behind closed blinds.

Augusta is a shithole. It's part of what makes The Masters so goddamn unbelievable; such a gorgeous place in the middle of such a dump.

Anywho, they've got a burgeoning little music scene and some decent little bars and restaurants closer to the river (downtown). Think the visitors center has some stuff on James Brown (Augusta was his hometown). Overall, not much to write home about.
